SDPI president Abubacker’s address to NRC meet at Coimbatore

By Pervez Bari, TwoCircles.net,

Coimbatore: “The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), is a political movement drawing inspirations from the earth as well as skies for its march forward. Our politics is not the pedestrian politics practised by the traditional political outfits. We put across a meta-politics, distinct from professional politicians and their politics. This concept takes us beyond materialistic political views. As such we expect not only results but also rewards."

"The majority of the population in the country is being alienated and estranged. All the keys of power and government are in the hands of a small section of the sawarna ruling class. Muslims, Dalits and Adivasis are preyed to large-scale persecution and exploitation”.

The above views were expressed by E. Abubacker, national president of SDPI, while delivering the presidential address at the National Representative Council, (NRC), meeting which began here at Ayesha Mahal campus on Saturday.

In the NRC meeting of the SDPI about 225 delegates from all over the country are participating. The election of new office-bearers and National Working Committee was held late in the night, the results of which would be announced on the second day tomorrow during the session.

Later, A. Sayeed, national general secretary, presented a detailed 35-page two years report of the activities of the SDPI since the last NRC which was held at Bangalore on May 21 & 22, 2011. Besides Sayeed the lengthy report was read out by a number of other office-bearers and National Working Committee members. After the report was read out a detailed discussion was held on it.

At the outset MK Faizy, national general secretary of SDPI welcomed the delegates. Prior to this SDPI president Abubacker hoisted the green-red flag amidst NRC members renting the air with “SDPI Zindabad”. A political statement titled “The socio-political and economic conditions of the country” was presented which was followed by discussion on it.

Continuing the outgoing president Abubacker said: “The situation has changed drastically today. The Muslim community that used to be “marginalized” in the past has become a community that is “systematically targetted” today. In other words, backwardness is not the only problem before them, more seriously, it is that they are being “targetted”. Recent incidents and developments shed clear light to this fact. The Muslim community is forced to bear responsibility and made answerable for every blast and every explosion that take place in the breadth and length of the country. Muslims are being implicated, caught and arrested even for such blasts and explosions proved to be masterminded and implemented by the RSS-Hindutva forces. Several hundreds of Muslim youths are incarcerated and kept imprisoned in the various jails of the country. They are forced to while away their youth behind the bars without any bail or trial.

That India is being governed by the intelligence agencies and the Hindutva power-mongers combine is not a secret today. The spineless political leaders that lack will power are acting merely as their servants”, he lamented.

He sad that do not suppose that Muslims are targeted only by the government, the police, and the intelligence agencies only. The media that are celebrated as “the watchdogs” of secularism and democracy become “hunting dogs” when it comes to Muslims.

Abubacker said that Dalits are another community that is being diversely targeted like Muslims. They are a section of our community suffering social alienation, estrangement and marginalization. They are a section of our population systematically sidelined subjected to discriminations with the support of Vedas, Smrithis, and God-men together for thousands of years. It’s a fact that no other society with such a horrible predicament could ever be traced anywhere in the world. The ghettos of the Dalits are repeatedly torched to ashes in several parts of the country. The chastity of Dalit women is butchered everyday. The life of a Dalit is not even as precious and valuable in the country as the skin of a dead cow. The predicament of the Adivasis also is not different.

He stressed that it’s in this situation and historic juncture that a wide-spread awareness felt to be necessary for bringing about a vital and fundamental transformation in the society. A mass collective force pregnant with a mindset that agitates for justice, equality, and ethics has to rise forcefully for the purpose, he opined.

SDPI has bloomed and is looming large giving great hopes on a landscape like this. SDPI is a hot-wave. It is the fiery volcanic eruption that emanates from the pains and sorrows of a people who were marginalized (first) and systematically targeted (next) for thousands of years. It is the symbol of a people that has awakened into the future without being fettered in the sorrows of the past. SDPI represents the rise of the Dravidian clan that has been suffering the predicament of being slaves even while they were the genuine masters and owners. The Indian society cannot afford to delay this realization.

Meanwhile, on the second day on Sunday of the NRC meet a lecture on the present political scenario was delivered by Adv KP Mohammad Sharif. Then there would be group discussions on (i) Parliament ensuing election (ii) How to bring SDPI into the mainstream politics?

In the concluding session the result of the new office-bearers of SDPI would be declared. Then a number of resolutions would be adopted followed by speech of the new president of SDPI. Later i n the evening a massive public meeting would be held in the city for which preparations on a large scale have been made. The city is heavily dotted with huge hoardings, flex banners, party flags and buntings welcoming party delegates and national leaders giving an impression as if elections are around in Tamil Nadu.
