Chandigarh: Assistant Editor of TCN, Mohammad Reyaz, has got the tenth ‘Young Outstanding Web-Journalist Award’ at a felicitation programme organized at the Chandigarh Press Club on April 3.

Simmi Marwaha was a journalist who died very young in March 2003 in a road accident at Chandigarh. Her family and well wishers together started the Simmi Marwaha Memorial Charitable Trust, which for last one decade felicitates young journalists every year.

Mother of Simmi Marwah and Managing Trustee Rajinder Rosy said, “My daughter, who was not only a journalist but also used to write poems, was active in NCC, and was an upright citizen and honest person, died very young and all her potentials were crushed. Through this felicitation each year, the Trust wants to acknowledge and promote other young journalists.”

This year three young journalists were felicitated in print, electronic and web category. Besides Reyaz, Gurpreet Singh Talwandi (print) and Manoj Nagar (Television) were also felicitated.

Reyaz was given the award for his post riot series on Assam, “Bodoland violence 2012,” published in December 2012-January 2013.

Baljit Marwah, while announcing the award, appreciated the “focused reporting and writing on the community,” while elaborating on the advantages of internet media.

Kashif-ul-Huda, Editor of TwoCirlces.net, expressed his happiness, "this is an honor for not only the type of journalism that we do but also a recognition of TCN attempt to bring stories from the remote corners of India."

Started in 2006, TwoCircles.net is a US-based non-profit news website with a focus on Indian Muslim issues.
