Guwahati: A delegation of 25 members from Assam State Unit of All India Milli Council (AIMC) will join the ‘Movement for Justice’, a national convention organized by AIMC at New Delhi on April 6 (Saturday).
The national convention which will take place at Ramlila ground will also address issues related to Assam. In a release issued by state unit of AIMC said that the issue of killing several thousand Muslims in early 1980s in Nellie in Assam wills one of the prime issues to be discussed during the convention.
“In the context of Assam anywhere between 2, 000 to 5, 000 people belong to the minority community were butchered in 1983. The government had instituted the Tiwari commission to go into the causes of the massacre. The committee had submitted a 600 page report but successive governments decided not to make it public. The victims and their families remain deprived from compensation and justice even after several decades of ghastly incident,” Inamuddin Ahmed, general secretary of Assam unit of AIMC said in a release.
Besides, a host of other issues will be discussed during the convention.
