Guwahati: The music fraternity of the Assam has condemned United Liberation of Asom (Ulfa) for their act of accusing popular singer Zubeen Garg for singing a Hindi song on a Bihu programme on Thursday. The fellow singers, musicians and even common people have reacted sharply on ULFA’s statement.
“If ULFA has said something on Zubeen, it’s like they have said to me or any other singer in the state. This is quite uncalled for. Nobody has the right to draw a line on an artiste’s freedom. This is very unfortunate,” said veteran musician of the state J P Das.

ULFA had condemned the most popular singer of the state for performing his popular number ‘Ya Ali’ of the film Gangster at Latasil playground on Wednesday night.
Ulfa's Information and Publicity Secretary Arunodoy Asom in an e-mail sent to media houses said that it was “unfortunate that Zubeen decided to ignore our request and went on to sing in Hindi at the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan and the organisers supported him in this”.
Earlier, ULFA had urged upon the artistes and Bihu organizers not to allow anybody to perform Hindi music on stage.
Zubeen said in the social media site Facebook that ULFA's reaction was really sad. “When I sang Ya Ali everyone was overwhelmed but now when I sing it, they say I am wrong,” he wrote.
Zubeen also announced that he would not sing at Bihu functions from next year as “no power can dictate an artist. We have our own freedom, my music speaks about love and brotherhood, some people never understood that but I will always live with my own freedom.”
The fans of the singer too have reacted sharply at the development. “This is complete nonsense. How dare they issue such a statement on the most popular singer of the state. What is the harm in singing a Hindi song. This song has made him popular in the country,” said Geetashri, a college student.
Joydeep Hazarika, a Delhi based journalist from the state tweeted, “By giving death threat to Zubin Garg, the ULFA proves yet again that they're the biggest mistake committed by Assam in last 30 years!”
