Patna: A day-long symposium was organized by Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India to demand the UPA government to restore the “minority character” of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
The college that was established by educationist Syed Ahmad Khan and later came to be known as Aligarh Muslim University is not considered a “minority” institution by the courts. The matter is in Supreme Court.

Prof. Alauddin, Former VC of Jamia Hamdard said that Government can easily amend the relevant articles to ensure that AMU is declared a minority institution.
Former minister Ali Ashraf Fatmi who was the chief guest at the symposium demanded the government to restore the minority character so that AMU continues to serve its target community.
