New Delhi: Welcoming the announcement of centre, favoring setting up of fast track courts to cases of Muslim youths held on terror charges Jamiat Ulama-i- Hind (JUH) urged the government to implement the move in spirit and letter too.
The central government has sought from all states the number of Muslim youths involved in terror cases lodge in jails, home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said on Wednesday while favoring fast track courts to deal with such cases.
In a press statement today, JUH general secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani, former Rajya Sabha MP, said if the centre takes it seriously, this move can pave the way for justice and release of innocent persons.
He was, however, cautious. Citing past experiences and long pending promises made earlier by the government, Maulana Madani warned that it should not end up as mere election stunt which is just six months away. “Our suspicion on the government is not without reason, our experiences in past are very sour. Although the announcement of the government is a silver lining in a dark, mere announcement does not serve any purpose unless it is translated into action,” said Maulana Mahmood Madani.
Maulana Mahmood Madani also demanded mechanism for rehabilitation of those acquitted and officers involved in false prosecution should be duly punished.
Invoking the compensation to Dr. Hanif by Australian government, he pushed for the centre to emulate the same for the acquitted who lost his best part of his life in jail We should only ape west in bad things but in good things also. “Various courts including supreme courts have also directed the government to compensate them,” added Maulana Madani.
