Hyderabad: Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC), on the occasion of completion of six years of Makkah Masjid bomb blast and subsequent police firing, reminded that the investigation in the case is going at the “snail pace” and hence criminals are roaming free.
On 18 May 2007 during the time of Friday prayers terrorists attacked Makkah Masjid and police fired at the people who were trying to help the blast victims. Then immediately after this a section of police officers blamed the Muslim community with the help of media agencies for these blasts.

CLMC alleges, “This blast is a unique type of terror attack where only one community has been targeted. And thus the Muslim community is the target of bomb terror, police terror, media terror, and mob terror. This is a greater conspiracy against the Muslim community to suppress them at every level and the investigative agencies have utterly failed to carry investigation in free and fair manner, expose the real faces of terrorists and bring the criminals to justice.”
It added, “It is very alarming that the Indian intelligence agencies have been wontedly ignoring the nexus of the right wing organizations with Hindutva agents present in almost all the departments including Police, press etc.”
On this occasion CLMC reminded that immediately after the bomb blast and police firing, police targeted hundreds and hundreds of innocent Muslim youth on the name of investigation and they were illegally detained, tortured and put behind bars thus making their lives miserable. After so many struggles these innocent youth were able to get acquittal from the courts, then the government tendered half hearted apology and gave the compensation for the name sake. But still justice has not been done to the victims of these blasts, police firing and police atrocities, a press statement by CLMC added.
Even after the completion of six years of Makkah Masjid bomb blast the criminals are still free and the investigation is going on snail pace and the victims of the Makkah Masjid blasts are waiting for the justice, it added.
They have also questioned the performance of National Investigative Agency in investigating and bringing out the facts before people. It is a matter of highly condemnable that NIA is still dependent on notorious investigative agencies of the AP state to solve the blast cases even while knowing the facts that these agencies are responsible to target the Muslim youths, Lateef Mohammed Khan, general secretary of CLMC said.
They also wanted to know why so far there has been no action against any police officers who were involved in framing Muslim youth in terror charges and no implementation of the recommendations of the National Minority Commission report which were submitted to the central government.
This committee believes that 18th May 2007 Makkah Masjid bomb blast is a blot on secular fabric of India and hence demanded that the government of India as well as government of Andhra Pradesh to take necessary actions.
CLMC urged that the Advocate Ravichander report on torture and Bhaskar Rao commission report on police firing should be presented in the coming Assembly session.
They also urged for proper compensation, rehabilitation to the victims of bomb blast, police firing and police torture.
