Aligarh: “Illiteracy and Zionism are the biggest enemies of Islamic society and an effort is on to destroy the political and economic infrastructure of Muslim countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya in the name of democracy while the real objective of the powers behind such changes seems to extend their colonial agenda in Middle East and West Asia”, said Mr. Gholam Raza Ansari, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran, New Delhi, while addressing the Ali Day function in the Kennedy Auditorium of Aligarh Muslim University.
Paying rich tributes to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, he said that Sir Syed had a great vision and he made arrangement for the study of Shia Theology also, despite the fact that he was a Sunni Muslim. He said that Sir Syed’s equal treatment to both the sects paved the way for development of academic affinity and great secular traditions in the University.

AMU Vice Chancellor Adressing the Ali Day programme
Mr. Ansari said that there was a strong relationship between India and Iran and India, Iran and Afganistan shared a historical cultural bond.
Delivering the presidential address on this occasion, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah said that Hazrat Ali’s name is synonym to courage and bravery and this is why he is called the Lion of Allah. Gen. Shah said that fear is a big cause of failure and it also leads to depression and destruction. He urged the students to shed their fear and face the challenges of life with courage. He said that the students should utilize their time judiciously and be a judge of their own activities.
Eminent scholar of Iran, Mr. Ayatullah Mahadavipur said that Hazrat Ali led a spiritual life and always worked for the happiness of Allah. He urged the Ali Society of AMU to publish books on the various aspects of Hazrat Ali.
The Vice President of All India Muslim Personal Board, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq said that the 21st century demands the attainment of excellence and not merely education. He said that excellence only will help to reach the top positions like former President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Guests present at the Ali Day programme
Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi, Dean, Faculty of Theology, Maulana Kalbe Jawwad and Vice President of AMU Old Boys’ Association, Mr. Mukhtar Zaidi also addressed on this occasion.
Prof. Mahshar Raza, President, Ali Society welcomed the guests and Mr. Qamber Hasan, Secretary presented the annual report of the society. Mr. Syed Ali Abbas conducted the programme and Patron of the Society, Prof. Syed Ali Mohammad Naqvi proposed a vote of thanks.
The winners of various literary competitions held on this occasion were also felicitated with prizes and certificates.
