Omar revamps National Conference

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir governor N.N. Vohra Tuesday accepted the resignations of seven ministers as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reshuffled the National Conference ahead of assembly elections due next year.

The governor accepted the resignations of six ministers from the National Conference and one from the Congress coalition partner. Abdullah had Monday asked for the resignations of all party ministers and advisors to revamp the party.

Abdullah appointed his political advisor Devender Singh Rana as party president of Jammu province and Minister of State for Home Nasir aslam Wami as president of Kashmir province.

He also dissolved the provincial committees with immediate effect.

Surjit Singh Slathia, the industries minister till now, was named senior vice president of the party.

Two other ministers appointed vice presidents are Qamar Ali Akhoon and Aga Rahulla Mehndi.

Apart from Slathia, Akhoon and Mehndi, the other National Conference ministers who resigned are Abdul Ghani Malik (higher education, Nasir Aslam Wani (housing and urban development) and Javed Dar (minister of state for public works).

R.S. Chib of the Congress was dropped as medical education minister.

Malik has been made in-charge of the Kathua-Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituency. Vice chairman of Kisan Board Rashpal Singh has been appointed in-charge of Jammu-Poonch-Rajouri (parliamentary constituency.

Dar has been made district president of the party for Baramullah in north Kashmir.
