Guwahati: Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) once again waved the flag of ‘secularism’ as the Assam state BJP organized an Iftar party in Guwahati on Saturday. National secretary of Minority Morcha Ashrad Alam who also joined the party along with other office bearers of the state BJP urged upon the people to be united for progress and development.
“The people here have been living so peacefully with a sense of brotherhood among the various communities and religious be it Hindu, Muslim and others for ages. And today, we offer prayer to Allah, God or Almighty for our prosperity in this holy month of Ramadan,” said Assam BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal.

He also urged upon the people to be united to avert all sorts of anti-social elements in the path of development. “We want all the people baring religion, creed and caste to go ahead in our life. We need to go united both in the Barak and Brahmaputra valley,” Sonowal added after the Iftar party which was organized by the Minority Morcha of BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP Minority Morcha national secretary Arshad Alam who was also a part of the event said that being nationalist is not a sin.
“In India people belonging to all religions live and everybody has the right to enjoy their own religion. To be a nationalist is not a crime or sin rather it’s a morality. I’m a Muslim and I’m also a nationalist,” he said in the reference of Narendra Modi’s Hindu Nationalist comment.
Senior BJP leader and Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty said that religion is a personal thing which should not be the barrier to live in the society as a human being.
