New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia has issued a rejoinder to the news report published in the Indian Express on July 30, 2013 under the heading ‘Caught in pincer………tough moves, reforms’ by Seema Chishti, where Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (retd) Zameeruddin Shah is quoted as saying, “The situation faced by AMU or Jamia Millia are different………..Did you know that Najeeb Jung (former VC of Jamia Millia) was nearly murdered?...”
The university clarifies in “no uncertain terms that the above statement is untrue and that there has never been any attempt made on Mr. Najeeb Jung’s life while he held the office of Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia.”
Further, there has been no Law and Order problem in Jamia Millia Islamia in the past several years and the university has been functioning absolutely peacefully and has been making many a stride in the academic world, it added.
A press statement added, “The Jamia fraternity i.e. the students, staff and faculty take pride in Jamia’s history and remain committed to its foundational principles of nationalism and secularism. The university remains more committed than ever to achieving excellence in teaching and research.”
