Hyderabad: Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, India’s ambassador to Yemen, has been appointed as country’s new consul general in Chicago. He is expected to take up the office at 6 August.
Dr. Sayeed, who was at his hometown Hyderabad for brief stay before joining new assignment, told reporters that his priority will be to solve the problems of Indian diaspora living in Chicago with special attention to upgrade Visa services. He informed reporters that there are 3.5 lakh Indian residing in Chicago out of which nearly 40,000 are Hyderabadi’s.

Ausaf Sayeed is the son of Awaz Sayeed who was a well-known modern Urdu short-story writer and essayist. Dr. Ausaf completed his intermediate from Anwaruloom College, graduated from Mumtaz college and completed PhD from Osmanai University before joining Indian Foreign Service in 1989.
In his initial career Dr. Sayeed worked as passport officer in Hyderabad, than later got postings in many Indian embassies in gulf and Europe. He has been consul general in Jeddha before getting transferred to Yemen.
Dr. Sayeed said his last posting in Yemen was an emotional attachment for him as he is from Yemeni decent of Al-Musalli tribe. His tenure in Yemen as Indian ambassador was during internal civil war, but he managed to increase India-Yemen trade to nearly 100% with facilitating Indian companies to get huge contracts in Yemen.
He said his next posting in Chicago will carry same emotional lag as his father Awaz Sayeed is buried in the same city where he died in 1995. As consul general in Chicago he will be in charge of 9 states in the Midwest, Dr. Sayeed said he will try to bring reforms to upgrade fast grievances redressal mechanism.
