Kolkata/Berhampur: The aspiration to work abroad of a Mechanical Engineer from Jadavpur University Salman Hossain hangs in balance after he refuses to pay Rs 1000 bribe for Passort verification. He has now filed a complaint against the erring Police Officer of District Intelligence Branch.
Salman Hosain, is from a remote village Kumrai under the Baroan Police Station in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, and son of a farmer, who graduated from the reputed Jadavpur University in Kolkata in 2013. As his father Dildar Sheikh could not bear the cost of higher education of three daugthers and two sons, Hossain, a meritorious student, took educational loan from a bank and also from West Bengal Minority Development and Finance Corporation.

In the hope of better salary Hossain was planning to go abroad and hence applied for Passport in the regional Passport Office (Window) at Berhampur Town in Murshidabad on July 2. He was called at the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Intelligence (DIB) at the Kandi Police station for verification.
According to Hossain, on July 31 when he reached the Distrcit Intelligence Branch, Mr Sanjib Dhar demanded Rs 1000 from him as bribe and when he refused, the concerend Police Officer threatened him that his verfication process will not be completed.
He has now filed a complaint against the said Police Officer to the Superintendent of Police of Murshidabad district IPS Humayun Kabir.
According to Salman he came out from the DIB office and sent a mail cmplaining to the regional Passport office at Kolkata and Delhi. On 7 August he also lodged a written complain to the Superintendent of Police of Murshidabad district.
Hossain has allegedly recorded the conversation between him and Dhar in his mobile phone. He produced the CD purportedly containing the recording of his conversation with DIB Dhar, where he demanded bribery and had threatened him on August 23 to the Superintendent of Police.
Speaking to media, Sanjib Dhar, has denied seeking any bribe.
SP Humayun Kabir has, however, assured proper investigation into the matter and said that if found guilty actions will be taken against the erring Police officer.
According to sources, an internal enquiry has already begun into the matter and CD has been forwarded to the competent authority for testing voice samples.
