Guwahati: Prominent personalities from different walks of life raised their voice against the concept of separate states to be curved out of Assam.
Politicians, intellectuals, social workers, journalists and various organizations who attended a convention organized by Sanmilita Janagosthiya Sangram Samiti (SJSS) in Guwahati on Sunday also advocated for a united Assam where people from different caste and communities can live peacefully for a bright future.

The convention also urged upon the government to address the genuine problems of all the tribes and communities in a bid to their overall development.
“What all of us want is all round development of all the people of the state barring caste and communities. The government should take the initiative to come forward and hold discussions with all the tribes and communities to address their genuine problems so that the state can prosper,” said prominent lawyer and the state president of Samajwadi Party Hafiz Ahmed Rashid Choudhury addressing the gathering in Guwahati on Sunday.
He also stressed on to find out the root cause of the problems through the state is undergoing at the moment. “This is not a problem of the Bodos or the Karbis, it is a problem of the state and it should be dealt accordingly to find a solution at the earliest,” Choudhury added.

While, social worker and former Cotton College Principal Deven Dutta slammed the role of the politicians and the parties in this regard. “They seemed to be lacking interest in solving these problems of the people. This is high time to think and act smartly before we head for a dangerous future. If it continues to be so we are going to see a dark future,” Dutta said.
Representatives of more than 15 organizations including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Aboro Suraksha Samiti, Nath Jogi Sanmilan, All BTC Minority Students Union, Asomiya Aikya Moncho and others took part in the convention.
