Round table discussion on Egypt and Syria held in Kolkata

Kolkata: A round table discussion was held in Kolkata to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria and Egypt at the Academy of Fine Arts auditorium on 27 August, 2013

Along with the convener of the meeting Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Secretary of All Bengal Minority Youth Federation, leaders of 14 other Muslim organizations and eminent journalists and intellectuals pondered over the military actions in Egypt and the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria.

State Jamat-e-Islami Hind President Md Nuruddin, Activist Mr O P Shah, Executive Editor of Bengali Daily `Kalom' Mr Ahmad Hassan Imran, All India Minority Youth Federation Secretary Muhammad Kamruzzaman and State Minority Commission Chairman Mr Intaj Ali Shah in a round table on crisis in Egypt and Syria.

Renowned journalist of The Telegraph Biswajit Roy said that we should condemn the deaths of innocent, whether in Egypt or Syria.

The Executive Editor of Bengali daily `Kalom’, Ahmad Hassn Imran said, talked about ‘Islam and democracy’ and questioned the role of USA and Israel. He added that the West always harp on democracy, but so often they worked against democratically elected governments, from Iran to now Egypt, if that did not suit their interests.

Reputed social activist O P Shah urged every country for self-introspection.

The convener of the Round Table meeting, All India Minority Youth Federation Secretary Muhammad Kamruzzaman urged to always stand out against all sorts of atrocities across the world. He said that there might be some sort of conspiracy to topple the governments in Muslim countries. He also demanded from the Indian Government to officially register protest against the coup in Egypt.

State Minority Commission Chairman Intaj Ali Shah urged the respective governments to find ways to solve the problems.

State Jamat-e Islami Hind President Md Nuruddin also condemned the role of USA and Israel and alleged that the miliatry government of al-Sisi is their puppet.

Secretary of Milli Ittehad Parishad Abdul Aziz, Secretary of Amanath Foundation Md Shahalam, Shikh leader Sukhnandan Singh Aluwaliah, Secretary of Bangiya Imam Parishad Raisuddin Purkait, Sunnat Al JAmat leader Abdul Matin, Ahle-Hadith leader Alamgir Hossain, All Bengal Minoruty Council vice-president Iftiqar Hossain, Maulana M A Momen also took part in the round table discussion.
