World Tourism Day celebrated

Aligarh: The students of Master in Tourism Administration, Department of Commerce at the Aligarh Muslim University today celebrated the World Tourism Day. Mr. Shabir Bhat, Deputy Director, J&K Tourism Department was the chief guest.

Delivering the presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah said that India is the largest country but with least tourism in the world. He said that most of the foreign tourists considered India most unsafe place for women. He said that India should concentrate on Sports Tourism, Medical Tourism, Religious Tourism and Wildlife Tourism to attract a large number of foreign tourists.

Gen. Shah said that Japanese and Koreans may be attracted for Golf and AMU is planning to establish a Golf Course to attract foreign tourists. He said that AMU is the safest university for women students. He said he would not tolerate corruption and bad behavior to women students.

Mr. Shabir Bhat, an alumnus of this institution, urged the University to update the syllabus according to the needs of job market in the tourism industry. He highlighted the role of J&K Tourism department for promotion of tourism in this region.

On this occasion, Prof. Z. U. Khairoowala, Chairman, Department of Commerce and Dr. Sheeba Hamid, Training and Placement Office (MTA) also addressed the celebration.

Mr. Azeem Kafeel highlighted the importance of World Tourism Day. Mr. Faizan and Miss Ruby conducted the programme.

AMU Vice Chancellor also presented certificates to the participants of Photography and Essay Writing Competitions.
