Guwahati: If India has to develop, communalism has to be erased at the earliest, this is what felt by noted social activist of the country L S Hardenia who is also the chief convenor of All India Secular Forum (AISF), a body which works for spreading secularism.
Hardenia who was in Guwahati to attend a lecture session also said that at present several forces are trying to bring division in the country in the name of religion. “There are several types of communalism which are trying to divide the country. If some is doing through terror activities while some others are doing it in the name of religion. Everybody, be it Hindu or Muslim, some anti-social bodies are trying to enforce the communalism,” Hardenia said after he was honoured with the litterateur Ismail Hussain (Sr) Memorial award on the first death anniversary.

Besides, criticising the system of ‘Doubtful-Voters’ in Assam, he requested the government to bring a solution at the earliest so that people can live peacefully enjoying the rights given by the Indian constitution.
“Ismail sir was one of the most secular figures of the state and he always tried to spread the feeling of secularism through his writings. Here is an effort from our part to carry out his ideals,” said CCSP president Hafiz Ahmed.
