New Delhi: Aiming to channelise the energy of the youths of troubled Jammu and Kashmir, the central government Thursday approved a special Rs.750 crore scheme to provide job-oriented training to around 40,000 of them through public sector companies.
According to an official statement, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a modification in the Special Industry Initiative "Udaan" which will allow public sector undertakings (PSUs) to participate in the plan and target youths who are educated, but do not have marketable skills.
The statement noted that the talent pool of graduates, post-graduates, diploma holders and youths with professional degrees becomes highly alienated and their potential in turning around the state economy is wasted.
Under the scheme, to be implemented over five years, interested companies can enter into an agreement with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and screen and select students from the state.
After assessing the skill gap of the trainees, a training module, its duration and nature of training will be designed by the companies and the trainees will be relocated to the training facility. After completion of the training, they will be interviewed for a job with the company and will be placed as far as possible.
According to the statement, inclusion of three year engineering diploma holders in the scheme, reimbursement of fixed training cost after minimum three months employment, instead of one year employment, and provision of medical/accident insurance have been allowed.
