Malappuram: The students’ wing of Kanthapuram AP faction of Sunni’s in Kerala – the Sunni Students Federation [SSF] - put up a different protest this time by blocking many retail outlets of the Kerala Beverages Corporation all across the state.
The protests was most effective in towns like Malappuram, Tirur and Ponnani of the Malappuram district, though retail outlets in other district too were not spared. The beverages outlets at Thrissur, Kasargod and Palakkad districts too were shutdown on protest by the Sunni students’ wing.

The SSF workers marched to the liquor outlets by around five in the evening and turned successful in keeping the shutters down, preventing many from celebrating New Year in a manner they cherished to.
The SSF rallies were well attended by youths and the organisational leaders were successful in keeping the rallies peaceful until the end without even causing any sought of damage to the public properties; except for the traffic got blocked at many places like the road in front of the Chamravattom beverage Corporation outlet.

Though the move got applauded widely there have been criticisms like, as only the government owned beverages corporation outlets were blocked, the private owned three star hotels found more business.
