AMU students’ union election results declared

Aligarh: Shahzad Alam, Ph.D. scholar at Centre for Women’s Studies at the Aligarh Muslim University was declared as President of the AMU Students’ Union (AMUSU) in the election held yesterday. The results of the Students’ Union election were declared early today by the Chief Election Officer Prof. Mohammad Shabbir.

Taushif Alam, M.A. (Mass Communication) was declared Vice President and Manzar Hussain, MA (Sociology) as Honorary Secretary of the Students’ Union.The polling for the election of office bearers of the AMUSU took place yesterday in a peaceful manner amidst great enthusiasm on the part of the candidates and their supporters. The election was also conducted for the Women’s College Students’ Union and student representatives of four faculties to the AMU Court, the supreme governing body of the University.

The election was conducted at seventeen polling booths spread over twelve Dean offices where Deans of the concerned faculties along with their team members administered the polling process. Chief Election Officer, Prof. Mohammad Shabbir expressed satisfaction on the smooth and peaceful conduct of election.

For the post of President, four candidates were in fray while seven contested for the post of Vice Presidentship and three were in fray for the post of Hony. Secretary. The polling was also held yesterday for ten Cabinet Members. Hafiz Obaidullah, Azhar Khan, Haseeb Khan, Arshad Aziz Malik, Mohammad Talib Khan, Shoeb Ali, Mohd. Huzaifa Sabir, Faizan Khan, Mohd. Azam and Mohd. Danish Saifi was declared elected out of a total thirteen candidates who were in fray.

The election of four representatives of the students on the University Court was also held yesterday. Hashim Khan (unopposed), Mohd. Shahzeb, Arshan Khan and Faeq Azim were declared elected as members of the University Court under Faculty of Law, Life Sciences, Social Sciences and Engineering and Technology respectively.



AMUSU was established in 1884 as a debating club on the pattern of Oxford and Cambridge Universities and this students’ body has produced great freedom fighters, leaders and statesmen like Dr. Zakir Husain, who became the President of India.

Women’s College Students’ Union election results

Shafaque Nasim and Rumana Sanam have been declared elected President and Vice President of the Women’s College Students’ Union, Aligarh Muslim University. Ms. Shazia Perveen was elected as Hony. Secretary unopposed.

The election results were announced by Dr. Shiela Shahab late last night. Eight Cabinet members of the AMU Women’s College Students’ Union were also declared elected. They are Ms. Atiya, Zeba Khanum, Zeba Fatima, Raziya Sultana, Saba Zafar, Unab Bokhari, Ambreen Yamin and Sidra Noori.
