Lucknow: The controversial Kamal Haasan movie Vishwaroopam was screened peacefully in five multiplexes and a cineplex amid protests by All India Sunni Board on Friday.

The members of the organisation came out after offering Friday prayers at Nadan Mahal Road. They even marched towards Shubham Cinema where the film was screened but later dispersed.

Police, however, remained alert by putting up heavy security deployment outside the cinema halls to avert any untoward incident. The first show at all the halls was however cancelled due to delay in getting the movie print. The public however avoided purchasing the movie tickets apprehending trouble on the release day. Very low turnout was witnessed on the first day.

Meanwhile Muslim clerics have demanded to remove the objectionable scenes of the movie. Imam, Aishbagh Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali has appealed to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for either banning the movie or permit the screening after deleting the objectionable portions are deleted.

Over a hundred people under the banner of All India Sunni Board staged a protest at Nadan Mahal road in the old city against the movie. The agitators also demanded that the objectionable scenes are removed from the movie as it hurts religious sentiments of the community. The protestors were dispersed after police intervention.

“Some portions of the film hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims I am hopeful that UP government will take prompt decision on the issue,” Maulana Mohd Mushtaq, president of the organisation said.
