Hyderabad: Kashmiri students from various varsities in Hyderabad assembled at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) to protest against the execution of Parliament attack convict Mohammed Afzal Guru.

Some thirty Kashmiri students mainly from Hyderabad Central University, Osmania University and MANUU began their protest by performing funeral prayer of Afzal Guru in absentia in the main campus.

Then they took out rally from main administrative building to the exit gate, stopping occasionally at different department buildings and rising slogans against Indian Government and in the support of Afzal Guru.

Kashmiri students were holding placards which reads, ‘I am Afzal’, ‘we want peace not pain’, and ‘where is democracy’. Students who were raising passionate slogans alleged that Afzal Guru became a victim as he was a Kashmiri Muslim.

Students speaking to the media said that Afzal Guru didn’t receive a proper trial from the beginning, and was already pronounced guilty by the public and the media, thus made a scape goat of the parliament attack case. Protesting students also criticized Governments secret execution of Afzal Guru and its inability to hand over Afzal’s dead body to his family.

They said it is human rights violation and against Indian constitution that a man is deprived of his last rites. Demanding his dead body back in Kashmir students were raising slogan, ‘he was born in paradise we will bury him in paradise’.

Some students also stated their disenchantment to Indian judiciary and parliamentary democracy they said that they lost hope on Indian state. Some students during their protests also raised passionate slogans demanding freedom of Kashmir from India in the name of (as put by them) shaheed(martyr) Afzal.
