Meerut: Members of Qureshi community in Meerut are up in arms over district administration's decision to raze the godowns constructed at Hapur Road slaughter house. The slaughter house had a controversial background with Cabinet Minister Azam Khan making it a prestige issue as it was operated by his political adversary Haji Yaqoob Qureshi.
Azam has urban development portfolio in the Akhilesh Yadav government and hence it was razed. It was announced that a girls’ college will be constructed on its place.
The place where the slaughter house was situated has several godowns owned by Qureshi community. Administration wants to raze them. The Jamiat-ul-Quresh held a meeting at Gol Kuan Masjid in Meerut and warned that they will thwart attempts by administration to raze their godowns.
State president, Yousuf Qureshi stated that they have proper receipt and have bought the land and are in possession of the land since several decades. He also stated that the matter will be brought before the authorities. Qureshi also stated that a delegation will also meet SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and if there is any such situation where administration is adamant then we will resort to protest.
Earlier, the Hide and Skin Merchants Association also held a meeting and claimed that if the sale and registry deeds are invalid then it should be first proved in court. They claimed that every month, the traders give at least 4-5 crores of revenue to the government still they are harassed. In coming days the politics over slaughter house is expected to hot up in Meerut.
