Aligarh: Aligarh police has registered a case against newly elected President of Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) Shahzad Alam. The case is related to the violence in Krishnanjali auditorium in Aligarh exhibition on February 14 during Mushaira.
As per reports, the Mushaira was being organised at Krishnanjali auditorium in Aligarh exhibition on February 14. Since the Mushaira attracted large number of AMU students the district administration of Aligarh had held discussion with AMUSU. It was agreed that a section will be reserved for students. It was also agreed that identity cards will be used as pass for entry inside Krishnanjali auditorium in Aligarh exhibition on February 14.
When the mushaira began large number of students arrived at Krishnanjali auditorium in Aligarh exhibition. Shahzad Alam, the president of AMUSU was also present inside the pandal. When police stopped the students from entering they sought held from Shahzad Alam. Shahzad came outside and facilitated entry of nearly 150 students inside the pandal. Soon another 50-60 students also arrived.
At this police restricted their entry. Soon there were heated words between some policemen and students. On hearing the news, the AMUSU office bearers reached on the stage and announced that Mushaira is being stopped unless the students are allowed inside the hall and an official of district administration offers apology. Sensing the mood of the students and the mushaira was stopped midway, an ADM rank official offered apology and the students were also allowed entry.
However, the act was taken as a humiliation by the administration. The officials did not say anything and allowed the programme. It was because Sonia Gandhi's visit was expected in AMU and administration did not want to give another issue to the students.
After everything was over, the administration registered a case against AMUSU president Shahzad Alam and 150 other students for the incident at Krishnanjali auditorium in Aligarh exhibition on February 14. Serious sections have been imposed include Section 7 of violence.
The case has been registered at Banna Devi police station and the date of case registration is shown as February 14, the day when incident occurred. However, it came to light on Sunday itself giving doubts to the claim by administration. Now the police is planning to identify other students who were in the violence through video footage.
