International conference on ‘making of religious identities in Jamia

New Delhi: The Centre for the Study of Comparative Religions and Civilizations, Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize an International Conference on “The Making of Religious Identities: Historical and Contemporary Themes” on March 14-15, 2013.

The Inaugural Function of the Conference is scheduled to be held on March 14, 2013 at 9.30 AM in the Conference Hall of Centre for Theoretical Physics of the university.

Prof. Muzaffar Alam, George V Bobrinskoy Professor in South Asian Languages & Civilization, Department of South Asian Languages & Civilizations, University of Chicago will deliver the Key-note address on this occasion.

Eminent academicians, research scholars, experts from India and abroad are expected to attend the Conference. The conference will have the following sub-themes: faith, practice and making of the ethical self; conversion, liminality and continuity: identities in flux; narrating an identity: performing and other arts; and round table on studying religious identities: methodological reflections.

A film titled “Milange Babay Ratan De Mele te/Let’s Meet at Baba Ratan’s Fair” (95 minutes) directed by Ajay Bhardwaj will be screened at the Conference on March 15, 2013 at 3.45 PM, which would be followed by an interaction with the filmmaker.
