By Mohd. Ismail Khan, TwoCircles.net,

Bengaluru: Although Congress swept the whole of Karnataka, including Hyderabad-Karnataka region where party was able to win 25 out of 40 seats, but out of three of its Muslim faces in the region two sitting MLAs Raheem Khan from Bidar and Syed Yaseen from Raichur hadto taste a defeat. Only Qamar-ul-Islam was able to retain his seat from Gulbarga, making him the only Congress Muslim face from a strategic region which has huge minority population.

Raheem Khan’s case was appalling as he was a sitting MLA from Bidar and was defeated by Gurupadappa Nagamarpalli, candidate from newly formed Karnataka Janta Paksha, with a margin of just 2,571 votes. Raheem khan scored 48,147 votes, while Nagamarpalli polled 50,718 votes.

Former MLA Raheem Khan with local Muslims

G. Nagamarpalli is a veteran politician with an image of shifting political lines; he has been state minister in former Congress and BJP Government and four times MLA from both the parties. But he was considered outsider for Bidar constituency, contesting for the first time after his old neighboring constituency Aurad was dissolved in delimitation process.

Congress MLC from Bidar and senior journalist Qazi Arshed Ali, speaking to TwoCircles.net said that religion and caste played spoil sport for Raheem khan who was not able to get all the communities under single umbrella, even when his main contender was from strong and dominant Lingayat caste.

He said Bidar constituency has always been communally sensitive one, but this time additional to caste, money also played major role in this election.

Arshed Ali also blamed personal and factional politics within Congress party in Bidar district, adding that in Bidar district out of five constituencies Congress was able to win only one seat. He said that there is no powerful district leadership of Congress even when there is a sitting MLA and MP. Ali stressed on the need of a comprehensive leadership.

Bidar constituency has Muslim population of nearly 40%, now Muslims in Bidar according to Arshed Ali is feeling dejected especially those who didn’t go to polling booths to cast their vote.

Ali said that Congress is now in damage control mode and are making plans for organizational changes in district leadership before parliamentary elections.

Congress MLC Arshed Ali also said that Muslims in Bidar are hopeful that as the Bidar parliamentary constituency has become a general constituency, Congress will provide ticket to a Muslim candidate. Earlier Bidar parliamentary seat was a reserved constituency for Schedule Caste.

Qazi Arshed Ali Congress MLC from Bidar

Ali said that whole of Bidar district and parts of Gulbarga district combine together to form Bidar parliamentary constituency which has huge Muslims electoral population and there is a fair chance of a Muslim candidate from a mainstream national party to win the general election.

He reminded that Dr. Shafaqtullah from Uttar Pradesh won from Bidar Parliamentary seat in 1950’s during former Prime Minister Nehru’s period. Ali now hopes that Muslims will get a fair chance to assert their representation in Bidar.

Presently Bidar parliamentary seat is represented by former Karnataka chief minister and senior congress leaders N. Dharam Singh.

Go to high court, SC tells SIT in Gulberg Society carnage

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Supreme Court has asked the SIT that probed the post-Godhra Gujarat riot cases to approach the Gujarat High Court with its plea that the transfer of metropolitan magistrate B.J. Ganatra be put on hold.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has sought that the transfer be put off till the hearing in the protest petition by Zakia Jaffri, challenging its closure report in Gulberg Society carnage, was completed.

Zakia Jaffari, widow of former MP Ehsan Jaffri, who was killed in the Gulberg Society carnage during the 2002 riots, had filed a protest petition challenging the closure report by the SIT following its probe into the alleged deliberate inaction on the part of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues and some high-ranking state officials in preventing the carnage.

In the 2002 incident, 69 people, including the former Congress MP Jafri, were killed. The rampaging mob targeted members of the Muslim community in the Ahmedabad neighbourhood and set it afire. It was alleged that all the frantic calls for help went unanswered.

R.K. Raghavan, retired CBI director who was heading the SIT team, in his May 7, 2013, letter seeking that the transfer of Ganatra be stayed, told the court that the Metropolitan Magistrate had already commenced hearing arguments in the said protest petition which continued for a number of days, since the record is voluminous.

The letter by the SIT chairman pointed out that when substantial hearing of the protest plea by Zaika Jaffri was over, on May 2, 2013, Ganatara was transferred in the general reshuffle of judicial officers in Gujarat.

Considering the letter written by Raghavan, the apex court bench of Justice P. Sathasivam, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai and Justice M.Y. Eqbal in their chamber hearing Friday said, "In view of the said circumstance, we are of the opinion that it is desirable to continue with the same presiding officer to dispose of the protest petition."

"Accordingly", the judges said, "we feel that it would be proper and expedient if this request is made by the chairman, SIT, before the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court on the administrative side."

Having said this, the court said, "We are confident that having regard to the situation, the learned chief justice will pass appropriate orders on the request of the chairman, SIT."

The SIT in its report to the apex court had given a clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others for their alleged inaction in preventing the carnage.

The hearing of the protest petition by Zakia Jaffari is in pursuance to the Sep 12, 2012, apex court order which had said that the trial court, before deciding on the complaint by Zakia Jaffri, will issue her a notice and afford her an opportunity to be heard.

The apex court, by the order, had also said that if for any reasons the SIT recommends the closure of a case against any person named by Zakia Jaffri, the trial court would do so after issuing notice to her and giving her an opportunity of raising objections and being heard.

"However, at this juncture, we deem it necessary to emphasise that if for any stated reason the SIT opines in its report, to be submitted in terms of this order, that there is no sufficient evidence or reasonable grounds for proceeding against any person named in the complaint, dated 8th June 2006, before taking a final decision on such "closure" report, the (trial) court shall issue notice to the complainant (Zakia Jaffri) and make available to her copies of the statements of the witnesses, other related documents and the investigation report strictly in accordance with law as enunciated by this court", the court had said in its Sep 12, 2012 order.

Lucknow: Fire brand Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow on Saturday. Bharti is a MLA from Charkhari seat in Mahoba of Uttar Pradesh.

Though exact agenda of the meeting is not known, it is reported that Bharti discussed various development projects in her assembly seat. The meeting lasted for nearly 45 minutes. It is also learnt that she discussed various projects for Bundelkhand region and Clean Ganga campaign.

This is the third visit of Uma Bharti since she was elected to UP assembly. BJP had pinned their hopes on Uma Bharti but she failed to click during assembly elections. Since then she is also avoiding UP making rare appearances.

However Uma Bharti forgot the hospitality of CM Akhilesh Yadav and during her interaction with media, she lashed out at the UP government.“Going by the actions of the state government, it is becoming a shelter place of terrorists. Terrorists will prefer UP than Pakistan in taking shelter. It is shameful that government is trying to save terrorists. We will wage a battle against the UP government and it will also be defeated like UPA,” she said.

The remarks of Uma Bharti were in reference to Tariq Qasmi and Khalid Mujahid who are in jail in connection with the 2007 Gorakhpur blast. State government's plea for withdrawing their case was turned down by a local court in Barabanki on Friday.

She also demanded resignation of PM Manmohan Singh stating that PM showed childish behaviour by delaying things for three days which ulimately resulted in the resignation of two ministers. “There is no such thing like central government. SP and BSP are supporting it due to CBI. Mulayam Singh had admitted it before that CBI is misused. It is worse than emergency,” she stated.

Uma Bharti also warned Congress for not getting too happy over Karnataka victory. She also termed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi as a spent force. She admitted that the adverse results in Karnataka were due to the delay in taking decision regarding B S Yedurappa. SDPI begins political campaign for release of under-trial prisoners

By TCN News,

Kolkata: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) will intensify the campaign for the release of Muslims, tribals and rights activists languishing in jails being falsely accused of terror charges under UAPA and other anti-people laws.

The party has been highlighting the issue through various programmes since last one year. The new phase of nationwide political campaign under the caption “Release the terror accused innocents; Repeal the terror law UAPA” will begin with a mass rally at Jamia Nagar in New Delhi on 9 June 2013. This decision was taken in the National Working Committee meeting of the party which was held at Kolkata on 11-05-2013.

The meeting observed that a large number of innocent persons remain in prisons and their trials are indefinitely delayed. It is revealed by study reports that in all states the percentage of Muslim prisoners far exceeds their population percentage. Along with Muslims, tribals and right activists are also being jailed falsely implicating in extremism cases in some parts of the country. They are repeatedly denied bail in the name of UAPA provisions even after no concrete evidence could be produced to justify their detention. The campaign will cover majority of states and will include programmes like pamphlet distribution, protest rallies and public meetings in the following months.

The meeting reviewed the ongoing National Reservation Campaign which was inaugurated on 14th April, the Social Justice Day, at Kolkata. The Central Government and majority of state governments are not ready to give reservation to Muslims and other religious minorities though Justice Ranganath Misra Commission report that recommended the same was tabled in the parliament as back as December 2009.

“Other than the lip services repeatedly offered by a few minority leaders of the Congress party, the UPA government has not yet initiated any steps for its implementation. Other political parties also are not showing any interest in the issue of Muslim reservation. The fact that the parliament has not even witnessed a serious discussion about the issue illustrates the apathy of mainstream political parties,” said a press statement by SDPI.

On the state government level, the moves seen in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are also proved to be mere political gimmicks to gather Muslim votes, it added.

The NWC meeting of SDPI has hence decided to keep the issue alive and mobilize masses in different states so that the demand for Muslim Reservation will be a forefront issue at the time of next Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting was presided over by the national president A. Sayeed and those among the participants in the discussions were Samkutty Jackob [National VP], Prof. Naznin Begum [National VP], Hafiz Mansoor Ali Khan [National VP], Afsar Pasha [National General Secretary], Abdul Majeed Faizy [National General Secretary], E. Abu Backer [Former President-SDPI], Mrs. Yasmin Farooqui and other National & State leaders.

There are 65 organizations throughout India out of 41 selected blocks for the pilot phase of the Model School scheme under Public-Private Partnership mode have been selected in this final published list but even the educationally very backward states like Bihar and Jharkhand is also completely missing from this list.

TCN had reported earlier about the alleged biased selection of proposed blocks at all India level and places like Bihar, Jharkhand and minority concentrated blocks has been ignored in this PPP model.

A group of senior AMU alumni who are leading a campaign for minority issues, led by Parwez Mohammad alleged, “The HRD Ministry and their officials have recklessly ignored the minority applicants from the states of Bihar and Jharkhand as there are an institutional bias within the decision making of HRD Ministry.”

They have hence demanded an investigation in the whole affair.

‘Muslims should unite with well-wishers from Hindu community and Dalits to tackle communalism’

By Shaik Zakeer Hussain, TwoCircles.net,

Bengaluru: The coastal region of Karnataka is the hotbed of communal violence in the country. Commonly referred to, as a Hindutva bastion, the region has for years been in news for communal violence against Muslims, Christians and women. Even after the recent elections, which saw BJP almost wiped out, there were reported incidences of stone pelting at Mosques, beer bottle thrown at Madrasa etc.

The Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV or Karnataka Communal Harmony Forum), an umbrella organization of more than 150 groups, is fighting communalism for over a decade in the state. In an interview with TCN's Shaik Zakeer Hussain, KKSV’s District Secretary, Ismat Pajeer, talked about communalism in the region, the Muslim community and more.

Ismat Pajeer

Mangalore and other districts in this region are always in news for communal violence against the minorities, how bad is the situation and what is the condition of Muslims?

Muslims are in trouble here. This whole region is considered to be a Hindutva laboratory. There are various issues facing the community and ban on cow slaughter is one. Most Muslim families here are poor and beef is the least expensive of all meat, so many don’t have a choice but to consume beef. We don’t eat beef to offend any religious community, but because we can’t afford anything else. We are unable to slaughter cow even on the day of Eid. Many times the seller sells his cow to Muslims and then informs the Hindutva groups himself, who then beat up people who have the animal in their possession.

Then we have the issue of moral policing by Hindutva groups. Muslim youths are not allowed to speak to Hindu girls, even though these girls and boys might be colleagues working in the same organisation or students in the same college or institution.

Once I was sitting with a teacher of mine, when we were surrounded by Bajrang Dal activists. They thought I was with a Hindu woman, however when she pulled out her cross, they realized that she was a Christian and left.

And then our girls are not allowed to enter colleges wearing Burqa (veil), in many colleges it is unofficially banned. You know, some 30 years ago, some Hindus used to ask, why don’t your girls go to school, now they ask, why do your girls go to school in veil.

A Muslim girl by name Aysha Asmin was asked to leave her college, because she refused to remove her head-scarf.

Some time ago and even now to a certain extent, there was lot of talk about something called ‘Love Jihad’, what do you have to say about it?

It is all nonsense. It is a concocted fraud created by people with vested interests, to tarnish the image of the community. Even if one such case is proven, I am ready to be their slave; I am ready to carry their shoes on my head.

What has been the role of the local media in its portrayal of Muslims here?

They are biased against the community and barring a few newspapers, the entire media here is saffronised.

And the police?

The police are remote controlled by the BJP. Last year, the official website (www.dkpolice.org) of the Dakshina Kannada district police carried a collaged image of RSS workers in khaki shorts, seemingly extolling its activities. It was only removed after pressure from groups like KKSV and others.

They are outright rude and abusive when dealing with Muslims. If a Muslim visits a police station to say, even enquire about their passport status, they (the police) use swear words to address them and it doesn’t matters if he is a young man or a 70 year old. Once I was stopped by a police officer at midnight around 12.30 AM, I was asked to remove my helmet, and when he heard my first name, he called me a son of a w#%re. That’s how it works here.

Have you ever been threatened because of your work?

The area that I work and live in is a Muslim dominated one, so I don’t feel threatened here. And also many of these groups fear KKSV as it is an intellectual forum.

How is the common Hindu’s attitude towards the Muslims?

The majority of them do not subscribe to the ideology of the Hindutva groups. There are many instances, which I was a personal witness to, where Hindus have helped their Muslim neighbours. During the 2006 riots, Hindu families helped installing bore wells in mosques, they distributed milk in madrassas, etc.

Having said that, I should also tell you that, these sorts of instances are becoming rare nowadays. Sometimes Hindu families have been attacked by these groups, for having friendly terms with their Muslim neighbours.

How about the local Muslim leadership?

Community leaders don’t stand up for Muslim causes here and even the community itself is divided. The only time Muslims came together was when advocate Naushad Kasim was killed. People knew that he was murdered by police for taking up the case of Rashid Malabari and they came out together in protest.

The other time we saw such an event was, when madrassas were labelled as ‘terrorist breeding grounds’.

How do you think Muslims should fight this situation?

Muslims should unite with well-wishers from the Hindu community and the Dalits. I think this is the way; there is no scope working in isolation.

Kolkata : In a jolt to the Mamata Banerjee government, the Calcutta High Court here Monday ordered the CBI to take over the probe into a Trinamool Congress worker's death allegedly in the custody of West Bengal Police.

Kazi Naseeruddin died in the custody of Dhaniakhali police station in Hooghly district Jan 19, after he was arrested the previous night.

A bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice J.M. Bagchi directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the state police to hand over the case files to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) within seven days.

A public interest litigation was filed in the court for the same. It was alleged that his death was a "pre-planned murder" as he was on the verge of quitting the Trinamool Congress.

Only 10 percent Keralites among Indians registered in Saudi: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Monday thanked Saudi Arabia for considering the Indian government's requests on implementation of new labour laws there, but expressed concern about the low percentage of Keralites among the 65,000 Indians now registered with the Indian mission.

"What we have been told by the Indian embassy is that all Indians, who do not have proper documents for staying there, should register before July 1. Residents from Uttar Pradesh lead the list and surprisingly the list contains just 10 percent from Kerala," said Chandy while addressing editors from media houses here.

"We are, in a way, a bit baffled with the figures that just 10 percent Keralites have registered and the deadline ends on July 1. Hence I have asked State Minister for Non Residents Keralites K.C. Joseph to visit Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah and meet up with all Kerala-based organisations to see that all those who do not have proper documents get themselves registered," he said.

Chandy also took a barb at the local media saying it had reported that more than a lakh people from Malappuram district alone will return because of the new labour rules in Saudi Arabia.

Joseph later told IANS that he expects to be there in Saudi Arabia by the second week of June and will aim to get as many Keralites who do not have proper documents get registered with the Indian mission so as to get a valid legal status.

"The Saudi authorities should be thanked for their kind approach and they agreed to the requests put up by the Indian team led by Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi.

"They have said that anyone who returns from Saudi Arabia will have no bar on seeking employment in other Middle Eastern countries and they have also agreed to allow people who currently do not have a sponsor there to find a new one," said Joseph.

The Indian embassy in Riyadh last week asked Indian workers in the kingdom to either regularise their stay or return to India in view of the new labour policy in that country.

Saudi Arabia is implementing the Nitaqat or Saudisation policy, which makes it mandatory for all Saudi companies to reserve 10 percent of jobs for Saudi nationals.

The Saudi government has announced an amnesty period for expatriate workers to either get their residency status regularised or leave the country.

Erosion of trust is India's biggest problem: Narendra Modi

By IANS,

New Delhi : Launching an attack against the Congress-led government at the centre, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Monday said erosion of trust in governance was the biggest problem the nation faced.

Addressing an audience in the US through video conferencing, Modi said the country is being ruled by weak leaders.

"I know what damage it can cause, when rulers of a country are weak. You should look at the incidents of the past one month," Modi said.

"The biggest problem in the country is the lack of confidence. The actions of people in the top posts have resulted in erosion of trust. We have to bring back confidence in the system, the processes, intentions, policies and morality. This is the biggest challenge before the country," he said.

Modi, faced with a controversy over the communal riots of 2002 in Gujarat, said development should be "inclusive".

He also slammed the central government over its international policies, referring to the recent incursion of Chinese troops into Indian territory and the beheading of an Indian soldier by Pakistani soldiers.

"They (Pakistan) behead our soldiers, and after a few days, the prime minister of that country is treated with chicken biryani... Then China comes and knocks on our doors. I understand when China withdrew their soldiers, but did not understand why India withdrew its soldiers from its own land. This raises questions in the minds of common people," Modi said in his address to NRIs across several cities in the US on the occasion of Gujarat Day.

Modi has, in the past, been denied a visa to the US. Two months ago, his address at the Wharton India Economic Forum was cancelled.

I have a pressure cooker and I am not a terrorist: A take on Boston Marathon blasts

By Asma Anjum Khan for TwoCircles.net

First of all as I belong to a religion which raises eyebrows and prison doors each time a bomb goes bang anywhere in the world, let me condemn the latest in the series, Boston Marathon Pressure Cooker blasts. So never mind how many of my fellow citizens of the world have condemned the violence in Gujarat or Iraq or Afghanistan. Why does the world find it hard to accept the fact that like everyone else we the Muslims too are severely opposed to any kind of violence against the innocents? We are also; for a fair trial against an accused as he/she is to be taken innocent until proven guilty. But as we all now well realize, there seems to be a pattern to this madness. The moment some insane person commits a blast, all fingers are pointed in one direction, Muslim and Islam.

And this Muslim doesn’t know where to hide his face and goes on a condemning spree, lest he is done ‘in’ too. This is a fierce Psychological war that is going on post 9/11, with the Muslim minds. It was reflected in the universal Muslim prayer, after the Boston tragedy Oh, God, let it not be a Muslim, this time! While the world was waiting for the details of the blast, we were fervently praying that may the culprit/s not be one among us.

Bad luck, this time too.

Slayers of innocents , be they of any hue, are slayers of humanity, our Book asserts.

Neither we are terrorists nor do we want to atone for someone else’s crimes. Send him to hell if he is guilty, we don’t care.
The terrorist is simply just that, a terrorist. Never mind bombing Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan brings you Noble Peace Prizes and Presidential libraries.

Muslims in Boston area have come under the media scanner after it was revealed that Boston Marathon bombers were Muslims.

This whole psycho-warfare is repeated once more now. It begins with how the Muslim youth is becoming radicalized, how his religion makes him an extremist and leads to the racial profiling of the worst kind. This never happens when an Anders Breivik [Germany]or an Adam Lanza [ Sandy Hook] commits mass murders as heinous as done by the Tsarnaevs. TV shows abound with details of how the elder bomber went to the mosque each day,[ the younger Dhzarkov Tsarnaev never did] how he asked his women- his mother and his American wife Katherine Russell[ who converted to Islam], to cover themselves as per the Quranic edicts and his religious training during the Dagestan trip. As the telecast of the tragedy began on Television, the journos and anchors were competing with each other to blame the eternal suspects. With each piece of freshly arriving info in the media, we held our breaths and said a prayer for peace. A well known Muslim journo finished off that fateful day tweeting, Today the world goes to sleep at peace in Boston but we do not know what the morning will bring about or what the future holds for us.

How Israel Deals With Terrorist Acts:

There are admiring reviews for the so called impeccable handling of the entire Boston affair and how the police culled out the real terrorists from millions of thousands of photos taken at the spot. Reportedly the handicapped man at the wheelchair had given exact description of Tsarnaev brothers who had put those backpacks at his feet that day. But a few Doubting Thomases have expressed their reservations about holding the entire Boston city to ransom for more than 24 hours ,to the extent of asking each Bostonian to be indoors with the instructions to not answer any door call! Yaakov Katz, a military affairs correspondent for Jerusalem Post with a rich experience of covering many terrorist attacks is surprised at the US, over reaction , the shutdown of the entire Boston . He says he understands the rule of better safe than sorry, still asking people to shelter and holding five million people to ransom for a 19 year old boy! Oh boy, he calls it allowing terrorism to win ! It was unprecedented and exactly what the terrorist wanted, to terrorize and frighten the people, he informs us. In Israel, he had seen, people sipping coffee and waiting for buses from the same line that had just exploded. He also questions why since Monday when the blasts took place until Friday, with two terrorists on the loose there was no thought of a lockdown and with one terrorist dead and another on the lone run, you suddenly shut the shop? That American town paralyzed itself completely, he concludes. America proved Noam Chomsky right , again who has said that, America is a frightened country. This professor of Linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology says that, this is very ironic, because the level of security America has is such that no one else could dream of. The theme is we’re about to be destroyed by an enemy…….[today]it is Muslims…and [the ]paranoia is very real, he does not forget to add. This paranoia keeps reflecting here and there; an episode Family Guy from the famous cartoon series Simpsons’ is said to have predicted the Boston Marathon Blasts. The very next day the clip of that particular episode was pulled out by Fox Television from its website.

There have been well documented cases of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ensnaring the young unsuspecting Muslim youth into the terrorism trap when it were the covert security officials who led and encouraged them to join the terror outfits. Very recently a young Muslim man Abdella Ahmad Tounisi 18 , was arrested in Chicago when he, under an allegedly FBI trap tried to recruit himself as a candidate for an Al Qaeda group fighting the Syrian government, through an online web portal. To quote words from the report on Aljazeera, The critics have said the use of such sites raises questions about whether authorities are overreaching, wooing impressionable youth to contemplate crimes that otherwise wouldn’t cross their minds. Need it be said that all this was unethical on FBI’s part; the real terrorist doesn’t have to go online for contacts, the real terrorist has real contacts.

But come a terror strike and the Muslim minds get scared, burqas and beards begin to tremble. Muslim ki dadhi mein permanent tinkaa! No need to scratch your absent beards; if you are not a Muslim, you need not worry at all. You and your faith is safe and pure as the snow.

The Powerful Role of Social /Mainstream Media:
Talking about the role of the social media and how powerful it has become can be gauged from the fact that within a minute of the blast an eye witness Dan Rampareillo [@Boston_to_a_T] uploads a picture on twitter and eight long minutes’ later it was re-tweeted by Reuters social media editor Anthony De Roas[@AntDeRosa] tweeting, Photo captures explosion. A few moments later another tweet arrived,

The whole world is witness to those peaceful blasts by the religion of peace.

Prejudice at its extreme.

This prejudice this discrimination is the New Apartheid of the New World Order. It is a crime to call a black, a black or nigger but you can say anything about the Muslim. Subtle and blatant maligning of Islam remains unabated in the media. Peter T King of New York, the Republican chairman of the House Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, called for an “increased surveillance” of Islamic communities in the US; more police, more surveillance as the threat is from within. There are numerous such examples of Muslimpartheid and hate crimes. Sadly the Muslim World as a whole doesn’t speak against this atrocity. You won’t find M 8 to take care of our concerns. Fighting against Muslimpartheid is a lonely battle. Contrast this with the banning for life of the Greek footballer Giorgis Katidis for doing a Nazi /Hitler style salute to celebrate his winning goal.

Stoking fears about minority communities especially the Muslims is good for sales, the media men know this well. The nonstop filthy campaign against Islam on social and mainstream media is akin to putting the Muslims everywhere in those very Pressure Cookers as were said to be used by Tsarnaevs. The radicalization of the Muslim youth is the hot topic. It is quite revealing a story about the eldest brother Tamerlane Tsarnaev, 23 who had won two consecutive titles as the Golden Gloves heavy weight boxing champion of New England in 2010 but was barred from the national tournament championship as he was not a US citizen. The rules had changed only that year, shattering all his dreams of representing America and from then onwards he took to the dark road of fanaticism. Until then he was said to be a normal guy who loved partying, playing piano and violin and had an email id like , The_professor@real-hiphop.com

How Do Muslims Deal With Fanaticism:

That fanaticism is censured by the Muslims is evident from the fact that Tamerlan Tsarnaev , was driven out of a Boston mosque by his own people for foolishly objecting to the Imam’s call for emulating Martin Luther King Junior. This alone shows that Boston Muslims were alert to the extremist tendencies in the community. One must admire Imam Suhaib Webb , the Boston revert cleric for his exemplary role after the tragedy. I too am witness to an event where the local cleric denounced the working women to hell and for driving bikes; the speaker was rightly taken to task, by those present. I am witness to another out of the ordinary instance of fanaticism when in a program, an Islamic televangelist reprimanded the children for, hold your breaths, Clapping! Clapping is haram he said ; not practiced by the Salaf and now the kids had a real hard time. As they were used to putting their little hands together to commit the haram act of applauding the moment a child received a prize. It led to a funny situation where the bewildered kids clapped and giggled together. Last month in a Gulf city, in a religious congregation, some of the audience staged a dramatic walk out when a famous Islamic speaker talked about Imam Ghazali, the eminent Islamic philosopher. This I believe is an extreme reaction to a simple problem. That’s why these days I say a little prayer before clicking on anything related to films on my Face book wall as recently I was attacked by my, ‘FB sisters’ for clicking, like on an interview of film actor Farooque Shaikh. I was into a major sin, they said. From asking you to never wish your Non Muslim friends a Happy Deepawali or a Merry Christmas to condemning Ghalib for being an un-Islamic poet, the list may be long.

This is our own internal Pressure Cooker and mind it, we are keeping a tab on it, trying our best. But is the Media Pressure Cooker ever going to give us, a happy whistle of relief?

Indian man, daughter in Bahrain forced to live out in the open

By IANS,

Dubai : An expatriate Indian man and his three-year-old daughter in Bahrain have been forced to rough it out in the open for the last six months after a business deal went sour.

A desperate Mohammad Sikandar Samrat and his daughter Sara have been living in a park, mosque and car since November 2012 as his daughter does not have a passport and he is yet to get 65,000 Bahraini dinars owed to him by a Bahraini businessman, the Gulf Daily News reported Monday.

The father-daughter duo was forced out in the open after his wife and their youngest daughter left for India in November last year.

"This has been going on for the last six months when I was forced to send my family home after I could no longer cope," Samrat told the newspaper in a Manama park where the two are currently taking shelter. His wife is a qualified nurse.

Though he has a small one-room apartment in Manama, he said it was impossible to stay there as there was no water or electricity.

According to Samrat, he was doing well running a small business for the Bahraini businessman getting marble and stone supplies from India for land reclamation projects.

However, all that changed in 2009.

"When I went to the gentleman to ask for money, he gave me seven cheques worth BD40,000 - all of which bounced,” Samrat was quoted as saying.

"He promised to pay me the money in instalments, but that never happened as well. Numerous visits to his office also yielded nothing."

He said he and his daughter spent very little time in his apartment and go to a mosque at 3 a.m when it opens and then spend the rest of the time in the park and a friend's car.

He also owed his landlord 1,000 Bahraini dinars but he said the latter was kind and has not put pressure on him.

The father and the daughter are surviving on a diet of khubuz or Arabic bread and chickpeas.

He said he could not apply for Sara's passport when she was born in July 2010 because he did not have any money then.

Now, he said, he has done all the paperwork for her passport.

"The (Indian) embassy has told me they need special permission from India to issue a passport since she is more than one year old,” he said.

When contacted, an official in the embassy told the newspaper everything would be done to help the stranded Indian duo.

Samrat has also moved court against the defaulting businessman filing a criminal case.
