By TwoCircles.net Staff Reporter,

Hyderabad: Kashmir short film exhibition has cruised through different places in the city despite huge opposition from Right wing groups and shockingly also from the police.

On last Saturday nearly 40 hoodlums of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bharatiya Yuva Morcha ransacked the film screening venue Prasads Theater, assaulted the organizers and even stole their belongings including a laptop.

Interestingly this Kashmir film festival titled ‘Kashmir, Before Our Eyes’ which became an issue of contention of right wing groups and even the police declaring it anti-national was being organized by Kashmiri Pandit filmmakers.

Two days after the attack, when organizers moved the venue to a cultural center ‘LaaMakaan’, curators of the fest again faced opposition but this time from local police. After the incident at Prasad theater organizers applied for the security, but Banjara Hills police refused to grant it citing pre occupation of force due to Ganesh Pandal security arrangements.

This ordeal for Kashmiri film makers didn’t end here, when organizers were going ahead with the screening with or without the security; police inspector deployed constables at the cultural center to stop the screening.

Local Police shockingly echoed Right Wing rhetoric and termed the festival anti-Indian as National Award winning film ‘Harud’ was scheduled to be played is seen by the police critical of Indian army. Even though all the listed films of the festival were cleared by the Censor Board of India, local police bend it down on with fringe mentality.

Undeterred by the chauvinist right wing threat and unofficial ban of police, Organizers went ahead with their schedule and made steady successful screening at many intellectual hot spots which concluded on Thursday. In this whole week screenings were conducted at the University of Hyderabad’s Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, Nalsar Law University, English and Foreign Languages University and the Annapurna International School of Film and Media.

Other civil rights groups also joined in solidarity with the film fest organizers, Professional Solidarity Forum condemned the incident, and later Panun Kashmir a civil rights organization of displaced Kashmiri Pandits also condemned the attack by right wing goons. Ambedkar Students’ Association of the University of Hyderabad organized a ‘protest screening’ of the film Jashn-e-Azadi by Sanjay Kak, which itself was attacked at Symbiosis university in Pune last year. Another short film The Valley of Innocence by students from S.N. School of Arts and Communication was also screened.

A black day for India: BJP nominates Modi their candidate for Prime Minister

By Kaleem Kawaja,

News media from New Delhi has reported that the central parliamentary board of BJP has nominated Naendra Modi as their candidate for India's Mrime Minister in the parliamentary election next year.

Indeed it is a black day for the ancient Indian civilization that a murderer and brutal politician who has been branded by many countries and many organizations in India as one of the biggest violators of human rights and whom many major countries have prohibited from visiting their countries, is being nominated by India's major political party as a potential top leader of the nation.

It is a day that has brought shame and disgrace to the nation that Gandhi, Nehru, Azad, Patel and countless freedom fighters established by liberating it from the colonists. That a viscous politician who spouses not only hatred but also brutality for not only religious and ethnic minorities but also those who disagree with him, is a most disgraceful occurrence since India became a free nation in 1947.

That a man who resembles the fascists and brutal oppressors of the 1930s/1940s who ravaged Europe and Asia, could be nominated by a major political party to be India's prime minister candidate is a day of disgrace.

May God save India from the spell of fascists and murderers like Modi and BJP in the years to come.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy is in logger heads with media that critically covered his personal visit to an old city based godman Habib Mustafa Idrus Baba.

On Thursday morning DGP in his official convoy stopped over Charminar police station from where he along with Additional DCP (Task Force) B. Limba Reddy drove to the house of Baba in the narrow lanes of Fateh Darwaza.

Since his stop at Charminar local media started to cover his every move, although elaborate police arrangements were made, media sneaked to have DGP’s view at a 40 minute meeting with Baba.

Local Telugu news channels telecasted live his visit to old city’s sooth sayer alleging that DGP called the godman as recently Supreme Court has ordered for a CBI inquiry into his alleged disproportionate assets.

Some news channels also suggested that DGP who was scheduled to retire on superannuation on end of September but recently approached Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to quest an extension of his tenure, allegedly made request to Baba for payers in getting orders in his favor.

Mr. Reddy is fighting his ground on the basis of a judgment given by Supreme Court that a state DGP must have a fixed term of two years, Mr. Reddy who was appointed last year want complete two years of service as DGP.

On Friday in further embarrassment for DGP, The Hindu local edition carried on their front page his image bowing in obedience in-front of godman who was dressed in Darvesh style.

On the same day enraged DGP booked cases against news channels who covered his visit especially Zee 24 Gantalu, V6 and T News. All these news channels now claimed they are targeted by DGP who belong to Seema Andhra region as they are hardcore Telengana news channels. Earlier in the day many news channel offices were raided by central crime station teams which resulted in furious staffs and journalists of the channels to make a strident protest outside DGP office.

It was not the first time DGP got in news for visiting a godman, media attention was rapt even last year during his two trips to the ashram of controversial godman Ramadhuta (Avadhuta) Swamy at Chevuru in Gudluru mandal of Prakasam district.

The famed Habib Mustafa Idrus Baba is not new to VIP visit at his ‘Ibadat Khana’ in old Hyderabad, senior Congress leader and former Governor of Andhra Pradesh ND Tiwari (who was caught in a sex scandal) and former Union Railway Minister CK Jaffer Sharief (who was disturbed by the death of his son) met the Baba in the past.

On 12 September, 2013 in a joint operation led by the National Investigative Agency (NIA), Special Cell, Delhi Police, Aheri Police Station, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra and Maurice Nagar Police Station, Delhi the house of G. N. Saibaba, a noted civil rights activist and professor of English at Ramlal Anand College, University of Delhi, was raided.

Located on the main campus of the University of Delhi, the house was ransacked by the police on the false pretext of attempting to recover “stolen property” under Sections 93, 94 of the Cr PC. Saibaba and his partner and daughter were subjected to violent threats and criminal intimidation by the raiding team after he enquired about the search warrant – which was reluctantly produced later – and expressed his right to have the search conducted in the presence of his lawyer.

His right to contact the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) was completely disregarded too.

In a statement, JTSA noted, “The raiding team, in gross violation of individual liberties and rights, confined the three member family for hours and locked the house from inside. The raiding army, after three and a half hours of calculated devastation, finally took away Saibaba’s computer, hard discs, pen-drives, mobile phones, SIM cards, books, pamphlets, and so forth.”

They further added, “The violence inflicted upon Saibaba and his family shows yet again the high-handedness of the state and its police force and its power to treat human rights activists and other such citizens in such brazen manner.”

Saber Pasha with injuries on his mouth was shifted to Mirchowk police station, where police after taking statement from the minor girl in the presence of his relatives registered a case crime No. 187/13 under sec 354 of I.P.C. (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

In her statement to the police, 13 year old girl studying in the 8th standard alleged that Saber Pasha was stalking her for a long time and used to misbehave with her at school with mala fide intentions. She alleged on Friday morning on her way to school his Arabic teacher again stalked her and when they reached the school, according to minor girl Mr. Pasha forced her inside an empty classroom and tried to assault her for sexual favor and allegedly promised her good marks in quarterly exams in case of cooperation. The girl than stated that she resisted Saber Pasha and raised an alarm and escaped to her house and informed her family.

Girl’s family after getting to know about molestation of their daughter created ruckus in the school by violently beating up Saber Pasha.

Minor Girl in her complaint also alleged that she is not the first person to be molested, three other girls from same school were also being physically abused by the Arabic teacher.

Saber Pasha in his blood soaked Kurta was sitting quiet and calm in the station, he tried many times to hide his face from cameras. Mr. Pasha also appealed to the police to let him free as he was getting late for his Friday prayer Kahteeb duty at Hajj house, but to no avail as the allegation against him were serious.

By TwoCircles.net Staff Reporter,

Kolkata/Paschim Medinipur: Hours before the visit of President Pranab Mukharjee in West Bengal’s Medinipur district, communal tension rose in the locality under Keshpur Police station after a Police constable allegedly entered the mosque with his shoes on and shouted anti-Muslim slogans.

According to reports, a police constable Anjan Pal allegedly entered the mosque in the premise of 63 year old `Khariji Madrasa’Madrasah Misbahul Uloom in Mugbasan village under the Keshpur Police Station and chanted anti-Muslim slogans, just before the Maghrib prayer on Saturday in the evening. Angered Namazi and local Muslims blocked the road, demanding immediate arrest of the ‘guilty’ constable.

Fearing the situation could go out of control, district administration immediately swung into action and has deployed a company of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) to keep the situation under check. The ruckus was on till midnight, at the time of filing of this story.

President of Madrasa Misbahul Uloom, Sheikh Ramzan Ali told TCN that, at the time of evening prayers (Magrib Namaz) a newly recruited police constable of Keshpur police station Anjan Pal entered the mosque straight away, without even removing his shoes around 6 PM allegedly on lookout for a suspected ‘wanted’ person.

As he kept moving with his shoes on inside the mosque and proceeded towards the site from where Khutba is delivered, Mussalli objected to him and requested him to maintain the sanctity of the mosque. According to Ramzan Ali, musallis (those offering namaz) urged him to wait outside and even told him that he can arrest his suspect after the namaz if at all here was present there.

According to Ramzan Ali, at this Anjan Pal lost his temper and started shouting anti-Muslim slogans, accusing those present in the mosque to be ‘Maoists and Pakistani’. He allegedly also said that this is not a mosque but a ‘cow shed’ and threatened them to ‘convert the place into Gujarat.’
Villagers then retorted to protest and held the constable, after informing the Kespur Police Station immediately. According to reports, in no time a number of Police personnel from the Keshpur Police Station, led by Officer in Charge (OC) arrived.

Over 5000 people are believed to have barricaded the police force, blocked the main road and demanded immediate arrest and suspension of the Police constable. According to reports, local Muslims wanted written assurance from the administration, although the OC had given verbal assurance of actions if the constable was found guilty. At the time of filing of this story, the Constable was not yet arrested.

Ramzan said, the secretary of the Madrasa Misbahul Uloom Mufti Usman Ali had requested to OC of Keshpur to arrest the accused on the spot, but he refused. They are hence demonstrating until the higher police authorities arrive and assure of them of legal actions.

Anjan Pal was recognized by the local Muslims to be the son of Arun Pal, residing in the neighbouring Hindu dominated village of Purunberia, 5km away from Keshpur PS. As the news of his detention inside the mosque reached Purunberia, locals were gathering to ‘rescue’ him, but were deterred by the presence of RAF personnel.

According to village elders, there appears to be some kind of conspiracy to ferment communal tension in Medinipur just before the visit of President Pranab Mukharjee, who will attend the 125th year celebrations of Ghatal Vidyasagar High School and inaugurate its new building at Ghatal in West Medinipur on Sunday, 15 September.

Anointment of Narendra Modi as BJP’s PM candidate is a disgrace to India: SDPI

$

By TCN News,

Bhopal: The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has termed the anointing of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate as a shame and disgrace to the Indian nation that Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Vallabh Bhai Patel and countless freedom fighters established by liberating it from the colonists. Modi has become exemplary for those who want to make a career through communal politics.

SDPI national president A. Sayeed in a statement said that elevation of Narendra Modi, a viscous politician who spouses not only hatred but also brutality for not only religious and ethnic minorities but also those who disagree with him, is a most disgraceful occurrence since India became a free nation in 1947. That a man who resembles the fascists and brutal oppressors of the 1930s/1940s, who ravaged Europe and Asia, could be nominated by a major political party to be India's Prime Minister Candidate is a day of disgrace.

Mr. Sayeed said to call anointing of Modi as a Black Day would be travesty of truth. The mortality is not confined to Narendra Modi. Enthroning of RSS led BJP in to power itself is a threat to Indian society. It first happened when Atal Behari Vajpayee sat on the hot seat. Vajpayee, who was projected as a moderate face, had a quite divisive “mokhouta”. Can one forget Nelli massacre? It only happened when Vajpayee visited there and delivered his poisonous speech. How we can forget that gruesome massacre in Assam that time? It was also a blackest day when L. K. Advani became the Home Minister of India. The same Advani with his Rath Yatra flooded the streets of many cities with the blood of Muslims which culminated in demolition of Babri Mosque.

He said the secular forces in the country should not get entrapped into the debate and oppose any attempt to project Modi as a future PM alone but also should be wary of the logic which states that, "anybody but no Modi? Inadvertently, this would lead to accepting BJP. Be it Modi, be it Advani or anybody from the Sangh Parivar, they will run RSS agenda which is not acceptable to India - not only the Muslims. Rejecting Modi and accommodating someone else will give leverage to the other secular formations to go in alliance with BJP which will further strengthen this divisive political entity in India, he pointed out.

The statement stated that the reason of a surge in the right wing politics in India is none other that the lethargy of Congress-led UPA Government which has became defenceless in the wake of endemic corruption, scandals, the inflation and total sell out of the country to Corporate and MNCs. Any success of the BJP in 2014 should be credited to Congress not to Modi or the right wing forces. The spineless defence of secular idea by the ruling party, pampering the Corporate and MNCs leaving the millions of Aam Aadmi in lurch will surely give strength to the divisive forces. The 10 years UPA rule in general and the last 4+ years in particular which gave nothing but misery to the people. Their sole objective of the people in India is to kick out this formation in 2014 even at the cost of compromise with secularism and secular values. Ironically, those pampered Corporate and MNCs by the UPA regime are projecting Modi and doing all that possible to gift him the throne of India.

The statement said that Narendra Modi has continuously been hurling the hatred which he possesses inherently. Expression of ‘no guilty feeling’ about Gujarat pogrom is not new. He has been proclaiming it for years. His comment whereby he referred to Gujarat riot victims metaphorically as ‘puppies’ in an interview with the Reuters is again not as shocking from the man who called the 2002 pogrom as reaction to the action (referring to the Godhra train carnage). Political parties in opposition are, however, just taking advantage of such comments for appeasing the minority community.

Mr. Sayeed lamented how Gujarat has been rehearsed in recent Muzaffarnagar riots. Even before Modi’s Raj, the country has started witnessing what is in store for the future. Chief Minister Narendra Modi's supporters may feel that he has served Gujarat enough and now wants to repay the debt to 'Bharat Mata', but Gujarat's actual debt has mounted from Rs.45,301 crore in 2001-02, when he first came to power, and is projected to touch Rs.1.76 lakh crore by 2013-14. The social indicators in Gujarat, a state of 60 million people, tell a different tale from the Vibrant Gujarat story being pushed by Narendra Modi. The high economic growth in Gujarat has been at the expense of basic human development. Infant mortality, one of the best indicators of the success of a government, is a low ranking 11th with 44 deaths per 1,000 live births.

He said that some of the BJP’s leaders might have problem with Narendra Modi not because of his hard Hindutwa politics but they might be fearing a personality cult that subsumes party structure whose cult will ultimately be responsible for the speedy death of that organization. Now, BJP has converted itself into the BJP (Modi), with the slogan “BJP is Modi and Modi is BJP”, something eerily echoes Congress party's slogan “India is Indira and Indira is India” years ago, which the BJP had opposed tooth and nail.

By Abdul Gani, TwoCircles.net,

Guwahati: Several organizations including Char Sapori Sahitya Parishad (CSSP) have condemned the bomb blast in Manipur’s Imphal which killed nine workers from Assam. Slamming Assam government for keeping silent, they also urged upon the central and Manipur government to take adequate measures to compensate the families of the deceased and to ensure no repetition of such acts of violence.

“Whoever has done it we condemn such acts of violence which kills innocent common people. And with such kind of activities will never help anybody to reach their goal. We also want to say them not to repeat this violence again in any part of the country,” said CSSP president Hafiz Ahmed in Guwahati on Sunday.

He said that all the deceased workers were from Nagarbera area in Goalpara in lower Assam. “They all belong to very poor families and some of them were the lone bread earners of their families. SO, we request the central and Manipur government to do some adequate actions to compensate their families,” he added.

By Mohd. Ismail Khan, TwoCircles.net,

Hyderabad: In the art of inscriptions Islamic calligraphy stands unique in its panache and point, as it evolved with a sense of compassion to give an expression to the word of Allah. Islamic style of calligraphy consisting of decorative art started to gain prominence in the Muslim society as figural paintings were not permissible in Islam.

In Hyderabad, a gracious attempt had been made to revive the dwindling popularity of Islamic Calligraphy. An art exhibition titled ‘Art of Islamic Calligraphy’ has been jointly organized by Salar Jung Museum and Siasat Art Gallery an initiative by Siasat Urdu daily.

The exhibition at Nawab Mir Turab Ali Khan Bhavan at the Western Block of the Museum, witnessed a constant flow of excited visitors. So much was the publicity received that Museum authorities was made to extend concluding date twice. Art gallery which was inaugurated by Hassan Nourian, Consul-General, Islamic Republic of Iran on August 17th after extensions was open till September 8th.

Apart from traditional Muslim crowd, many others also visited the art gallery. From Hindutva politicians to surrendered Naxalities every one that was heard of in the city, queued up to observe 1000 years of tradition drawn into beautiful verticals of 1 meter sheets.

Nearly 600 calligraphic boards on display at the exhibition were simply breathtaking, one could definitely feel the urge and passion of the calligrapher’s in the every ascending and descending horizontal curves. The art gallery presented the best of work of any handwritten pattern scripts like Kufic, Naskh, Thuluth, Nastaliq, Shikaste, whose alternate just cannot be found on any search engine.

The best of generations of evolution of Islamic script might have been the reason that herd of young tech savvy visiting the gallery doesn't missed a point to save the scene they never witnessed before. Many of them didn’t even understand what was scripted but for them it was a visual delicacy.

For Mohd. Feroz, an engineering student visiting the art, didn’t understand much of what was drawn, but it was hard for him to apprehend that everything actually is handwritten. “I am not well verse in Urdu, can read little Arabic. But after seeing this art now I understood there is more elegance to just tradition of what we learn. Now I really want to learn some of this.”

Mr. Ahmed Ali, Head of the Department of Manuscripts of Salarjung Museum seems the busiest man in the gallery, hundreds of students from different schools and Madrasa’s were flowing in and Mr. Ahmed is taking his time out to explain or giving a sort of lecture to students sitting on floor explaining the art of calligraphy and its minute details.

Mr. Ahmed Ali addressing one such group of student explained the unique factors of Islamic calligraphy according to him this art apart from conveying message of God; it’s also a source of mental harmony for the seeker.

Such was the impression created that many young students visiting the gallery made a point to sit in front of their favorite draw up and scribble in their note books trying to make a copy of it. Some veteran artists present their, was kind enough to help the jubilant young blood.

The showcased work in the exhibition was of five handpicked veteran artists Syed Naseeruddin Viqar, Abdul Naseer, Abdul Nayeem Saberi, , Raziuddin Iqbal, and Abdul Lateef Farooq. But as with the passion it wasn’t an easy job to create the world’s finest art. Abdul Lateef Farooq resemble sort of M.F. Hussain, standing near his art work, he is explaining to visitors the efforts he put in to produce what he called the best of his script career.

Slideshow:

Abdul Lateef Farooq said he devoted 3 years of constant and concentrated hard work to deliver the best of Islamic calligraphy. Most of his work, he chalked out with black ink was fine and persistent in its draw that for many onlookers it was hard to deem that this kind of work can be obtained without a lesser printer. Abdul Lateef explained, “Calligraphy especially its Islamic form consisted of Arabic script is really tangible and evolving in nature. One can compact a whole verse in a single word or stretch a single word to give an impression of sentence. We artist from Siasat Art gallery gave our best effort to present each and every form of Islamic calligraphy with all its flair.”

Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, the editor of Siasat Urdu Daily and the patron of the art gallery said that the basic aim of the exhibition was to save the dying art, “Islamic calligraphy is nearly vanishing from the scene, there was an urgent need to give it a new life. We took a step in this direction and started Art school appointing best five calligraphers mastered in different style of script. Soon the bulk and valued work produce by them was preserved in the form of art gallery.”

The chief minister's first halt was village Kawaal, the origin of the three-day violence that engulfed Muzaffarnagar district and nearby areas, forcing the government to deploy the army.

Yadav is also set to go to other troubled parts of the district including Shahpur and Mirpur, officials said.

He will call on the family of Rajesh Sharma, a television journalist who was killed in the violence, the officials said.

Senior police officer Arun Kumar told IANS that Muzaffarnagar, located about 130 km from New Delhi, was calm Sunday and that curfew was relaxed during the day.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is to visit Muzaffarnagar Monday.

By IANS,

Srinagar : Shopian town in Jammu and Kashmir remained calm but curfew bound for the fifth day Sunday even as a shutdown called by separatists hit life in Srinagar for a second day.

Curfew was imposed in Shopian after a driver identified as Rafiq Ahmad, 28, was killed allegedly the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Gagaran village Sep 11.

His family alleged that Rafiq was going to his in-laws' house when he was killed at Gagaran by CRPF troopers.

CRPF officials insist that their men did not fire at Rafiq nor were CRPF personnel deployed on the streets Sep 11.

However, following a public outcry over Rafiq's killing, the Jammu and Kashmir government ordered the CRPF camp in Gagaran to move out and replaced it with the state armed police.

Four people were killed in CRPF firing at the same place Sep 7.

While three of those killed turned out to be unarmed civilians, the exact identity of the fourth slain person previously claimed to have been a militant is still being ascertained by police.

Meanwhile, a separatist called shutdown against these incidents affected life in the summer capital Srinagar for a second day Sunday.

Although shops, businesses, banks, educational institutions and post offices are closed here because of Sunday, public transport went off the roads due to the shutdown.

Private transport, however, plied in many roads in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Kashmir Valley.

Arrest killers in Muzaffarnagar, says CPI-M

By IANS,

New Delhi : The CPI-M Sunday demanded the immediate arrests of all those charged with inciting communal violence in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

It also sought proper relief measures from the state government for those affected by the violence besides compensation to those killed and injured "promptly and without any discrimination".

The Communist Party of India-Marxist urged the administration to restore peace so that the thousands who fled their homes following the three days of violence start leaving the makeshift refugee camps.

The CPI-M statement followed a visit Saturday of a party delegation to Muzaffarnagar when its members met a large number of Hindus and Muslims.

The party said sexual harassment of young school and college going girls -- widely seen as a trigger for the Muzaffarnagar trouble -- was seen as a major problem and that the guilty belonged to both communities.

"Unfortunately, this problem is being exploited by the Hindutva forces who are demonizing the minority community as being responsible for this crime and alleging that girls belonging to the majority community are the victims.

"This is not only untrue but also reveals the fact that for them it is not the issue or the exploitation of women that is the issue to be resolved but it is an inflammatory issue when it is utilised for communal polarization," it said.

The CPI-M delegation blamed the administration for not acting promptly once the trouble started in Muzaffarnagar.

"Our visit confirmed that while there have been casualties among both communities, it is the minority community that has suffered immeasurable more in terms of loss of lives, homes, property and livestock.

"Our visit to the district hospital and conversations in the camps confirmed the brutality of the killings.

"Bodies of young children that had been brutalized and burned were brought to the hospital; a woman's body, cut in pieces, was also brought.

"It became very evident that government and administrative failure are responsible for the terrible loss of life and property."

The Muzaffarnagar violence claimed 47 lives and injured scores, forcing the government to deploy the army. Night curfew is still on in Muzaffarnagar.

Kishtwar riots an ISI bid at ethnic cleansing: Defence expert

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Aug 9 riots at Kishtwar in Jammu, dubbed as “communal”, were actually another bid by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) at orchestrating ethnic cleansing in the northern Indian state, according to a senior defence expert.

“Our estimate is that the ISI used the riots to get rid of the village defence committees (VDCs) to clear the way for ethnic cleansing,” Maj Gen (retd) G.D. Bakshi, whose book 'Kishtwar Cauldron: The Struggle Against ISI's Ethnic Cleansing' just hit the stands, told IANS Sunday.

“It is the first phase of a diabolical move by the ISI to further carry out its agenda of ethnic cleansing in Jammu & Kashmir,” he added.

On Aug 9, three people died when a group of people, raising anti-national slogans after the Eid prayers, was attacked by another section of people in Kuleed area of Kishtwar.

The army was later called out to help the district administration and indefinite curfew remained clamped for 13 days.

According to Bakshi, after ISI-inspired militants drove out the Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley, the Pakistani agency has next set its sights on the Dogra population in the mountainous districts of Doda and Kishtwar.

The ethnic cleansing being sponsored by the ISI is one aspect of the terror operations being carried out that has escaped public notice completely, Bakshi avers.

“In February and March 1990, (the now defunct) JKLF (Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front) started a systematic ethnic cleansing campaign to kill, terrorise and drive out the entire 400,000-strong community of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley of Kashmir,” Bakshi said.

“Over 20,000 houses of Kashmiri Pandits were burnt, some 105 of the Pandit educational institutions were destroyed and 103 temples razed to the ground. Over 1,100 Kashmiri were tortured and killed.”

According to Bakshi, some 140,000 to 160,00 Kashmiri Pandits fled the valley between February and March 1990.

This was followed by high profile killings of senior Kashmiri Pandit officials, intellectuals and prominent citizens that resulted in the total exodus of the Kashmiri Pandit population from the valley.

According to Bakshi, the pogrom against the Dogra community by ISI-sponsored militants started in 1993 when 14 Dogras were massacred in a bus near a place called Hasti Aug 16 that year.

The next year, 800 Dogra families fled to Himachal Pradesh and in August that year, the Sector 9 Rashtriya Rifles was raised in Kishtwar.

In 1995, the Indian government set up village defence committees and armed them with World War I-vintage Lee Enfield rifles.

That stabilised the situation in the area and six Border Security Force (BSF) battalions were withdrawn.

Immediately thereafter, in 1996, a total of 39 Dogras were killed in separate incidents.

This persecution against Dogras continued till 2001 claiming scores of lives, according to Bakshi, who commanded the Sector 9 Rashtriya Rifles from 2000-end to 2002.

In 2001, Bakshi led a massive manhunt to track down and kill a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants who had targeted several innocent Dogras.

That had a salutory impact and there were no major incidents against the Dogra community after September 2001

Bakshi's book comes just over a month after the latest violence in Kishtwar.

The book provides details of the intense operations in a very sensitive region of Jammu & Kashmir and also gives the doctrinal overview of such operations.

“Pakistan's recent peace overtures (to India) are quite apparently designed to get a free hand on its western front - to decisively influence the outcome in Afghanistan,” Bakshi writes in the post-script of the book, adding that the withdrawal of the US-led troops from Afaghanistan in 2014 will cast a shadow over the whole of the south Asian region.

“For this, it (Pakistan) needs a temporary truce on its eastern front with India in 2014-15 so that it can deal undisturbed with Afghanistan and then turn around and send in thousands of out-of-job Taliban cadres into J&K and even the rest of India for a final phase of the Gazhuwa - the civilisational conflict to dismember India,” he states.

By IANS,

Midnapore : Describing the incidents of killings and gang rapes of women and children in the recent communal clashes as a "sad spectacle", President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday expressed his agony over the violence and called for "widespread" public mobilisation for gender sensitization.

The president stressed that religion should not be the vehicle for spreading hatred and violence against "believers of different faiths", and called for introspection "on the sad decline in moral values" in the society.

"At a time when our country is witness to the sad spectacle of people, including women and children, getting killed in communal clashes, the life of Pandit Vidyasagar teaches us that religion should never become an instrument for propagation of hatred and violence against believers of different faiths," Mukherjee said.

Delivering the seventh Vidyasagar Memorial lecture at the Vidyasagar University here, he said no society which ill-treats women and girls can claim itself to be "civilized".

"When such incidents occur, angry criticism of the government cannot lead to a solution," he said.

"There is an urgent need for widespread public mobilisation aimed at gender sensitisation. We need to introspect on the sad decline in our moral values and reflect on how we can reset our moral compass," he said.

Urging teachers to ingrain in the students values like sincerity of purpose, honesty, integrity and respect for women, he regretted that there was a lack of respect for women in the society.

"This situation cannot be changed unless the society asserts itself," he said.

Seeking pro-active intervention of the society in such areas, he said laws for securing women's safety would become effective only if there was efficient mechanisms to enforce them.

He stressed the need for continuous police and judicial reforms to ensure prompt justice for women.

The president also called for women's empowerment and better health, education and employment facilities for them.

Railing against female foeticide, he said such practices should cease to exist immediately.

By Mohd. Ismail Khan, TwoCircles.net,

Hyderabad: The horror rape story which has shocked the conscience of the people of Hyderabad has now been unfolded with many harsh facts coming to light as the girl who suffered the ordeal of 17 months of rape and bondage has decided to go public with her fight against whole system, who are trying to bury her tribulation terming it a love affair gone awry.

20 year old Seher Azad (name changed) a resident of old city was a student of 3rd year polytechnic TRR College at the outskirts of city, the canteen owner of the college, 33 year old Satya Prakash Singh a native of Bihar, had allegedly kidnapped her from the college premises and raped her for almost 17 months before the brave girl managed to escape from the clutches of rapist.

Victim with mother

But yesterday when the girl along with her mother and Majlis Bacho Tehreek leader Amjedullah Khan filed written complaint at Santoshnagar police station it turned out to be an open dossier reflecting hideous nature of rapist and police laxity complied with prejudice in her rape case.

Sheher who lost her father and lives with his mother and younger brother in her written complaint to police, copy of which is with TCN, stated details of getting trapped by Satya Prakash Singh, “(I) use to visit the College Canteen for lunch during college days along with my friends and had met the canteen owner Mr. Satya Prakash Singh many times at the canteen. On 3rd April 2012 when I was feeling unwell I went to the canteen to take some fruit juice, when I ask for some juice from the said owner he gave me a drink inquiring about my health. After taking juice I felt dizziness and felt unconscious. When I gained conscious I found myself in a dark room with all my clothes torn.”

And then her ordeal of 17 months of continues as rape and bondage began, “I tried to shout for help, suddenly Mr. Satya Prakash tied my hands and beat me very badly with a belt and hands and raped me which resulted in bleeding from my private parts. As it was nearly dark he locked me up in a room and went away. Next day he came again with some food packets and asked me to eat, when I refused to eat and started shouting he beat me again and forced me to eat. After some time he raped me again. The incident of keeping me in locked and raping continued for nearly one month.”

Owner of the flats knew about rape bondage but did nothing

Seher Azad in her complaint made revelation that owner of the flat which was situated on Almasguda knew what was going on but instead of calling the police he asked Satya Prakash to shift her to another flat, “When the house Owner suspected his (satya parakash) activities asked him to vacate the house. The said house was a flat situated at Almasguda, Meerpet, Ranga Reddy Dist. When I was shouting loud the said house owner asked him to vacate the flat.”

Than Satya Prakash lured Seher for changing the flat by giving false promise of taking back to her home, “One day he came early morning around 3:00 AM and promised me that he will leave me near my house and asked me to accompany him. He took me in a Tata Sumo Vehicle (Blue Color) Number AP11 G 9108. After drive of an hour he again took me forcibly to another flat at Gayatri Nagar and in spite of my protest and shouting locked me with a help of woman who I can identify by seeing.”

In the next flat he continued to rape her, and according to her complaint, “In the said flat also he raped me daily and used to abuse me. He used to say that I am the fifth girl who he has raped and killed and thrown in a river. He claimed that his father is former Defense Employee and his brother is a Criminal Lawyer who will save him from getting into Police net.”

Victim with her mother and MBT leader Amjedullah Khan at Police station

Police turned the blind eye inspite of getting a big lead

In a shocking revelation Ms. Seher Azad stated that she could have been saved given an active intervention of police, which neglected a big lead that is call from the rapist mobile to her family describing her situation, “It was around May 2012 after taking too much of alcohol he raped me and slept. As my hands were open I took his phone and called my mother and told the incident of me being tortured. My brother who had given a complaint of missing person in Police Santosh Nagar Crime No: 76/2012 went and informed the Police about the call.”

The ordeal of Seher could have ended on the same day when her brother approached the police to inform about the call, but sadly it didn’t. Mr. Amjedullah Khan who accompanied Seher Mubeen to Santosh Nagar police station told TCN that Inspector informed him that after tracking the mobile number they found it to be from a women from Mahbubnagar district, when they interrogated the women they found that women used to run a canteen business with Satya Prakash singh in the past and allotted her SIM to him.

Getting crucial lead and big circumstantial evidence police called Satya Prakash to station and interrogated him and according to Mr. Amjedullah Khan he was kept in two days custody, but inspector told them that Satya Prakash Singh confessed it to be his mobile number but claimed it was lost few months back and refused any knowledge about the missing girl, so police simply let him off.

Mr. Amjedullah Khan alleged that police let off Satya Prakash Singh even after such a crucial lead because of the intervention of senior TDP politician son in whose college Satya Prakash was running the canteen.

Ms. Seher’s complaint to the police corroborate with the allegation of Mr. Khan, when Satya Prakash was let off by the police first thing he did was to vent all his anger on girl revealing his strong political connections, “He didn’t came to the room for nearly for 5 days. The said lady who was kept to check me used to give me food and water from the window. I was kept locked. Suddenly on 6th Day Satya Prakash Singh came in an drunken position and bet me very badly abused me and my mother and said why did I call from his mobile phone through which the police started suspecting him. After beating me badly he raped me again and said that with the intervention from the college owner Mr. Teegala Krishna Reddy (former Mayor) & TDP Leader and his Son (Owner of TRR College) he was set free by the Santosh Nagar police.”

Family of rapist complicit in the crime

Ms. Seher Azad, in her complaint revealed that family of Satya Prakash who lives in Bihar was aware and complicit in the crime even visited her in her virtual jail, “One day he came along with some of his family members including his father, wife and his brother and asked me to meet them. Before meeting them he forced me to have a Tilak on my head. He presented me to the family member as Vanita and told them as he is childless (from his previous) marriage, he wanted to marry me. I started crying in front of his father Bhishmukh Prakash Singh (Rt. Defense Employee), Brother Mr. Jayparakash Singh (Advocate) and his wife (who then left the room after listening to the proposal of second marriage). I told them that I am a Muslim Girl and the Satya Prakash has kidnapped me and is raping me since last 4 months. After listening to me they started laughing and said that all the family supports Satya Prakash. Seeing me crying and shouting his father left the room keeping me with his Advocate brother. His Advocate brother than beaten me up with a slipper and he also tried to rape me. By their beating I felt unconscious. His brother threatened me that they will kill my brother and my mother if they do not withdraw their complaint from Santosh Nagar police station.”

Alleged rape accused Satya Prakash

Got pregnant than forced to abort

The most appalling part of her complaint Ms. Seher stated that due to the continues forced sex she got pregnant and was illegally made to abort, but even after this the humiliation continued, “After some months he shifted me to a new location (3rd location) where I fell ill and was vomiting heavily. He brought some lady to check me and the lady said that I have got pregnant. I started crying and asked him to leave me. Promising that he will leave me after abortion he took me to a Nursing home and asked a lady Doctor for abortion. I protested with the said Lady Doctor and the staff for carrying the abortion. The said lady Doctor did an abortion on me. I was bleeding heavily. He (again) took me to the flat. He used to harass me to satisfy him inspite of me getting aborted. He forced me to do oral sex and also forced to drink alcohol.”

Some Police officers took bribe and participated in her humiliation

Some police officers according to Ms. Seher also abetted Satya Prakash in his heinous crimes, she wrote in her complaint, “On one day while I was crying and shouting some of the neighbors called police and informed about me. After some time three police men came and I told everything that I am being kept illegally and being raped since many months. The Police took Satya Prakash along with him and after some hours they came back. I saw all the Police men and Satya Prakash in a drunken position. All the Police men entered and started passing comments and asked Satya Prakash to have a good rape and they left. The Police men while going away took some money from Satya Prakash. Before going the said three Police men touched my private parts and passed bad comments against me.”

The escape

Detailing her escape from the clutches of Satya Prakash she stated, “On 4th Sep 2013 around 1:00 PM as usual he came to the flat fully drunk with some food packets. After taking lunch he raped me again and felt slept. As the door was kept open I ran from his clutches and reached my home at 4:30 PM.”

The present position of her case

After the new facts been revealed by her, Santosh Nagar police amended the earlier missing complaint and changed it to rape case by inserting stern sections of IPC like 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her for marriage), 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Fearing communal fall out Satya Prakash Singh was arrested immediately by the police and is currently lodged in Chanchalguda jail.

But Mr. Amjedullah Khan alleged that police is not serious to provide justice to Seher Azad and to take this case to a logical conclusion, “It has been more than a week that girl is back at her home but police till now didn’t record her statement. After protest they asked her to visit them again on Monday where a women constable will be recording her statement. Till now no medical checkup has been done on the girl, police is still maintaining that she eloped with that man who raped her for 17 months. Instead of counseling the rape victim, police officers are asking her perverse questions raising figures on her modesty.”

Mr. Amjedullah Khan even alleged that local police is intimidating girl’s family to withdraw her complaint. Mr. Khan said he along with girl’s family is planning to file another complaint with Commissioner of Police, Minorities commission or Human rights commission as they are not expecting any justice from the local police. He warned that issue is carrying lot of media attention, now if any untoward tensions arises local police should be held responsible for their inaction.

Now with her future and life being ruined, Ms. Seher Azad is expecting at least one thing from society, that is justice. In her complaint she requested to the police to act against every individual who was complicit with Satya Prakash and abetted him the crime, “I request you to take necessary action against Mr. Satya Prakash, his father, his brother, his wife, the three flat owners where I was kept Illegal, tortured and raped continuously. The owner of TRR College who helped Mr. Satya Prakash when Santosh Nagar Police caught him. The Nursing Home officials and the lady Doctor where the abortion was done, and the three Policemen who also tried to molest me (in the third flat).”

(TCN appeal: Although while filing complaint to demand justice rape survivor revealed her real name, but to maintain her anonymity TCN has used a pseudo name TCN also condemns the insensitivity of social media users who are using her name in their posts purportedly to demand justice, trying to make it viral by using hash-tag.)

By TCN News,

Aligarh: There is difference is beef (गोमांस) and buffalo meat but when media particularly print media covers any incident related with meat, it after uses the term beef without conformation said Jasim Mohammad, Secretary General of the Muslim Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI). MCCI has sent an open letter to Justice Markandey Katju Chairman, Press Council of India urging him to issue guidelines to the media for desisting from using terminology of beef without confirmation.

The MCCI has pointed out in its petition that Aligarh is a big producer of buffalo meat and some elements have tried to stop the meat trade for gaining political mileage and they claim any meat as beef and the media particularly local media mention is us such.

Jasim Mohammad has pointed out that Aligarh meat trade earns heavy foreign exchange for country and at the attitude of media is negatively affecting meat production and trade. He said that we respect religious sentiments associated with beef or law but cannot ignore the uncalled for interference of communal elements in the trade which is contributing in nation building by way of foreign exchange.

Jasim Mohammad has urged Justice Markandey Katju to issue guidelines to media mainly to print media in that connection.
