Visually challenged cricket players from AMU playing for UP win national tournament

Aligarh: The Uttar Pradesh cricket team for visually challenged, comprising all eleven players from the Aligarh Muslim University, won the All India Visually Challenged Cricket Tournament defeating Maharashtra by 5 wickets in the finals played at Karauli, Rajasthan.

Winning the toss, Maharashtra Cricket Team decided to bat first and scored 208 runs in twenty overs. Waqas Hussain took three wicket while Syed Ghazi and Mohd. Imran took 2 wickets each. In reply, UP Team achieved the target in 12 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Mohd. Faisal and Vikas Kumar scored 172 runs in the opener partnership with an individual contribution 72 and 69 runs respectively.

The other members of the team were Hussain Ahmad (Captain), Vikas Kumar (Vice Captain), Mohd. Nasir, Mohd. Imran, Syed Ghazi, Saif Khan, Haider Khan, Mohd. Wali, Mohd. Yunus, Vaqas Hussain, Mohd. Faisal, Ali Akbar, Tatheer Hussain and Qadeem Siddiqui.

On Monday, all the team members, along with the Secretary, Games Committee, Prof. Tariq Mansoor and manager of the team, Mr. Mohd. Shahab Khan met the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah in his office and apprised him of the great achievement. Gen. Shah assured the team members that University will provide all facilities to the visually challenged students so that they excel in all fields including cricket and other sports.
