Lucknow: Muslim religious leaders gave a call for observing a black day on Friday as a mark of protest against the alleged desecration of shrines of Sahaba in Syria and Jordan. They also announced a massive protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday.
Leading them is Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad who took along Sunni cleric Irfan Miyan Farangi Mahli and announced it that the protest will be held under the aegis of Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Hind. Jawwad claimed that the holy shrines have been demolished by Saudi Arabian's Wahabi extremists. He also claimed that they were part of the larger US conspiracy. Jawwad is the general secretray of Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Hind.
A day before similar concern was raised by Maulana Mirza Mohammad Athar who heads the All India Shia Personal Law Board. The issue is slowly simmering mostly in the old city of Lucknow. The clerics are demanding intervention of the UNO in the whole incident.
As per the claims of the clerics, extremists attacked the mausoleum of Hijr ibn Uday, one of the close companions of Prophet Mohammad in the Damascus suburb of Adra in Syria and exhumed his grave taking his remains to an unknown location. Few days ago, the mausoleum of Prophet's cousin brother Jafari Tayyar was set on fire in Jordan.
