Assam govt to bear medical expenses of poor trader’s sons who sought to commit suicide

Guwahati: Assam government has promised to bear the medical expenses of the three sons of Abdul Rahim, a petty businessman of Doboka in Nagaon, who have been suffering from Thalassemia, a blood disease.

The ill-fated man, who has been struggling to meet the medical expenses of his three ailing children, had earlier decided to end his life. The 50 year old man who deals in footwear in Shilling also decided to move Meghalaya High Court with a plea that permission should be granted to him to execute his children and his life.

After that Assam CM reacted immediately to help Rahim with all the medical expenses. Chief minister Gogoi said the government would bear the expenses for the medical treatment of Rahim’s three ailing sons viz., Sadik Ahmed 16, Suheil Ahmed 14 and Mohammed Samim 9 in Guwahati. Rahim is scheduled to meet chief minister Gogoi on Friday.

Rahim has to spend at least Rs 45,000 per month for regular blood transfusion for his children being treated at a Guwahati hospital. He would require around Rs 25 lakh each to cure his children who is next to impossible for him even after selling off his shop and plot of land.
