Lucknow: The blue flag fluttered on Al Fahim Meatex—the meat plant situated at Hapur Road in Meerut signaling that former minister Yaqoob Qureshi joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Qureshi had earlier been in BSP but had parted ways during 2012 elections and contested on Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) ticket from Sardhana in Meerut and losing the election.
A public meeting was held at the campus of Al Fahim Meatex where Rajya Sabha MP and Coordinator of BSP Munaqad Ali announced the joining of Qureshi in BSP. Though the crowd was surprised to see that former MP Shahid Akhlaq who is against Qureshi also present during the function. Munaqad Ali clarified that Mayawati had instructed that both will work together.
Qureshi announced that he will take up any responsibility given by Mayawati and will work of BSP candidate. At this Munaqad Ali also stated that it may be considered that Qureshi may contest from any seat. Former mayor Ayub Ansari too joined BSP on the occasion. Shahid Akhlaq personally garlanded Qureshi.
The major focus was on Samajwadi Party with Qureshi claiming it that Mulayam is against Muslims and is trying to snatch the meat trade. Recently their slaughter house has been demolished by minister Azam Khan. He also claimed that interests of Muslims are safe only with BSP
