Guwahati,: Along with the entire country Assam Photojournalists’ Association (APJA) has also condemned the incident of rape of a fellow photojournalist which took place in middle of Mumbai on Thursday evening while she was in an assignment.
The members of APJA stand firmly behind the fellow journalist who is undergoing treatment and expressed solidarity with the trauma under which she is going. It also demanded proper treatment care from the government and from her employer.

Staging a silent protest in Guwahati on Saturday APJA also demanded stern action against the culprits and asked the government to take appropriate measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.
“We are raising our voice against such a heinous crime. We want proper actions to be taken against those accused who have been nabbed by police. If our country continues to be so, people will fear to visit our country and we will feel ashamed in front of the world that a country where people do not know how to respect a woman,” rued APJA president and senior photojournalist Rajib Bhattacharjee.

The photojournalists’ body staged a silent protest in front of Guwahati Press Club with their mouths covered by black piece of cloth. All the journalists from different organizations both from print and electronic media participated in the protest.
