AFMI calls for release of Asaduddin Owaisi

Farmington, USA: The American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (USA & Canada) has called on the Andhra Pradesh government to immediately release All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen leader and Loksabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

The American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin, is a North American based grassroots organization, dedicated to socio-economic and educational development of Muslims and other underprivileged masses in India.

In a press release, the AFMI said, “The revival of old and frivolous cases and the prosecution’s inexplicable opposition to his bail application point to vendetta politics which is unhealthy to smooth functioning of democracy.”

It added, “Political dissent is part and parcel of democratic politics and it shouldn’t be cause for hounding of political rivals.”

Asaduddin Owaisi’s arrest has caused much unease in the Hyderabad and elsewhere and is a cause of concern for the NRIs who are concerned about these disturbing developments, the press statement further said.

AFMI has hence called on the Andhra Pradesh government to withdraw ‘all frivolous cases’ against Asaduddin Owaisi and to take necessary measures to release him on bail before January 24, 2013 when he is scheduled to preside over a religious conference in Hyderabad.

The AFMI statement also registered its protest, over what it called, AP government’s “treatment of with kid gloves of extremist elements like Praveen Togadia, Swami Kamalananda, Acharya Dharmendra, etc., who have been openly spouting venom against Muslims and other minority communities.”

It has demanded “swift prosecution and equal application of law on everyone.”
